In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have tutored children at the Shelton School in North Dallas using their high profile Alphabetic Phonics program.
The program of the Shelton School serves a population of students 3/4 of whom are children with ADD/ADHD. This is a good program for such students because it incorporates phonics, spelling, writing and auditory recognition exercises. Because of the success I saw with kiddos there, for which I attended extensive training and which I implemented daily. I use the tenets of the Shelton program in my tutoring of students with ADD/ADHD.
Additionally, I served as a Master's Degreed Special Education Teacher for 11 years. My students exhibited a host of learning differences including many ADD/ADHD students.
I hold an MS in Generic Special Education on a Texas Lifetime teaching certificate.
This past summer I tutored a six year old going into Second Grade. She is diagnosed with Aspergers and is in Public School in Richardson, TX. I used a program designed to foster a smooth transition between grades. She was well prepared for Second Grade when she returned to school in the Fall.
Also, I was a nanny for a five year old who had recently recovered his speech and responded well to routine and consistent daily activities outside the home.
I have ten years experience as a special ed teacher in public school environments in Dallas, Richardson and Plano ISD's.
My master's degree is Generic All Level Special Education. Many of my students have been children with dyslexia and ADD/ADHD.
I have tutored at the Shelton School, which uses an alphabetic phonics approach to reading and spelling and incorporates auditory training as well. I have done both.
Four Years as a certified teacher in General Ed Intermediate Grade Self-Contained Classrooms in Kansas and in Texas.
I am a Master's Degreed teacher in Special Education including Language Arts, Reading, Writing, Phonics and English Usage. I have taught children with little or no English proficiency in Public Schools in Dallas, Richardson and Plano, TX
I love to see progress in students' performances in the academic arena in all subjects.
I passed the ESl Test but did not pay the fee to have it listed as an endorsement on my teaching certificate.
I taught in a 95% population of Spanish
Speakers in the Ben Milam Elem School in DISD as a Special Education Teacher using the ECRI Language program for which I spent many hours in training by the district.
As a native English/American speaker and teacher of students with learning differences, I know how to present grammar and English usage rules that become easy for students to apply. Modern language requires that students learn how to express themselves in speaking and writing in a concise and efficient fashion in order to be understood.
Good grammar is important for writing resumes, applying for employment and applying to colleges and universities.
I have taught phonics to students of all ages. In studying phonics, we will begin with the beginning consonants, ending consonants and how they make words with the vowel sounds being featured in the particular lesson being presented.
I am a Master's Degreed teacher in Special Education and trained in both ECRI and Alphabetic phonics, two well known and efficient reading interventions for students with Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, ADD/ADHD and for the improvement of the reading process.
I have 14 years experience in teaching in public schools, Sylvan Learning Centers and Educate online, Inc.
I am certified in Generic, All Level Special Education in the state of Texas.
I have taught 14 years in public schools. I am trained in numerous multi-sensory methods of teaching including auditory, visual and kinesthetic. I have taught at Sylvan Learning Centers, in public school classrooms, as a tutor in my home and online for Educate Online, Inc.
I know that every student can learn as long as that student is taught using methods that are right for him/her and enhance the strengths he/she already possesses.
I use a phonics approach to the teaching of Spelling by employing exercises in both auditory and visual learning, combined with practice and consistent encouragement.
Spelling indicates the educational level of many students. It is important for the writing of essays, resumes and applications to schools.
Both the ECRI and Alphabetic Phonics programs I teach enhance and correct Spelling proficiencies.
Students learn vocabulary in various ways:
3) Vocabulary exercises involving words in specific contexts as well as in current English speech.
I have taught many students to improve vocabulary knowledge in public schools and in summer programs at Community Colleges and in tutoring programs.
My degree is in Generic Special Education.
