U.S. Air Force Veteran of 25 years turned teacher. I retired in 2001 from the Air Force and returned to school to get my Teaching Certificate. I began teaching third-grade math and science, moved to 5th-grade science after a few years, and then moved to 7th and 8th-grade pre-algebra where I also served as Math Department Head. I returned to an elementary campus to take the Accelerated Math position where I tutored struggling math students. For the past few years, I've been back in the science lab teaching 5th-grade science. Every year of my teaching career I have taught a state-tested core subject and my students have always achieved beyond the state averages. Working with students who struggle while embracing that struggle and seeking to better their academic performance is my passion. I seek to motivate and build up each student by getting to know their strengths and weaknesses. I try to show each student how their strengths can be applied to any subject matter and that through hard work and perseverance a weakness can become a legitimate strength.

I am able to provide students with an understanding of mathematical concepts, analyze their mistakes and thinking patterns and guide them to correct those patterns whenever and wherever appropriate.

Science is fun and challenging and I enjoy making the challenging fun and the fun challenges. I work with students so that they achieve mastery level with the vocabulary so that they will know exactly what is being talked about and done in the lab. We then apply that vocabulary to real-world science through hands-on experiences as well as through text and our own journaling.

I provide students with personal study guides, key vocabulary lists, and support and encouragement throughout the learning process. I believe everyone is capable of learning to a high level when they are willing to put forth the effort.
