Hi, I'm Jake and I'm currently working towards becoming a full stack software developer, and later a teacher for Computer Science and Mathematics. I'm constantly coming up with new ideas to work into solo/cooperative projects. As Co-President to my school's Computer Science and Robotics Club, I will be heading up several projects and workshops this upcoming school year.

I've had experience tutoring both with my neighbor's 6th grader in Algebra I, and at Wakefield Elementary in Sherman. At Wakefield I was able to interact with the both the teacher and the students as an observer/tutor. I formed a great connection with some of the kids -- a lot of them were waiting for me to get up and teach them one day -- and learned a lot of communication skills and teaching styles from this experience.

Although my plan was to earn both my Masters in Education and Bachelors in Computer Science within the same 1-2 year span, I decided to hold off on teaching until I gained real-world experience in the business end of Software Development. As soon as I find the money and time, I plan on heading back to college to finish my Masters in Education.

I understand that many students have different individual needs and require a certain teaching style in order for them to succeed. There's no "one size fits all" approach to teaching, and my main approach with students is to understand and communicate what teaching style best suits them. Additionally, I ensure that these students engage in a more hands-on learning experience rather than a lecture-based style.

Having over 2 years of experience coding in with both the back- and front-end of Software Applications, I understand the complexities and conventions of coding in these areas (frameworks, object-oriented, UX/UI, Data Structures, etc.). With an in-depth knowledge of these areas, and in working with various partners in developing software, I'm able to convey how each piece of code interacts with each other, and why they work.

Each student has their own teaching style, and, having experience in working with Core standards for public education, I understand that a lot of the material is being taught in a really one-size-fits all method. As a future teacher, I reject those kinds of methods and will do my best to ensure that you understand the material and provide you with the insight on how this material applies in the real world.
