Lamar University Beaumont Texas (Elementary Education)
My love for working with young children has developed from being the mother of 6 children, 14 foster children and 17 years as an elementary teacher locally in the area. I believe every child should have the best education possible. Every child can learn, however, there are many learning styles. A teacher must know each child in order for each to reach their full potential during the time together.
I enjoy watching children grow academically, mentally, physically and socially. Students and teachers will face challenges along the road of learning. The key, I believe is to find what kind of learning style each student has. Then, use that information to help the student succeed. In a classroom, a teacher has to use them all in order to meet the needs of every student. This is an overwhelming task at times. However, if a teacher makes time for small groups and one- on-one time throughout the week needs can be meet to a greater degree.
It is because I believe one-on-one time is very important that I have begun to tutor children outside of the public school system. I know I can help a child that needs perhaps a little more time on a skill but their school teacher has to keep moving forward for the benefit of the whole class. A little time outside of school working on a skill can provide what a child needs to keep up with their class. I can also help those students that may have a greater educational need in the same way but by working at their level with a variety of accommodations and/or modifications. I am very familiar with IEP's (Individual Education Plan).
One of my goals is to keep the student challenged, but not overwhelmed each session. I want them to experience some kind of success each time. Building the skill targeted along with their self-confidence. Short homework practice may be assigned after session. I will provide periodic assessments and progress reports depending on skill and length of tutoring period planned.
I am qualified to teach all elementary core subjects along with ECI students and Resource/Content Mastery students as well. As mentioned before, I am certified regular elementary education and special education certified by the state of Texas. My teaching career thus far has been 17 years in the local public school system.
I am generally available for tutoring from 10 am to 6 pm. I can travel to your home or arrange to meet at local libraries to work with your child. My base rate is $50/ hour. Contact me for more details or to arrange tutoring session.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping your child be the best they can be. That is the reason I became a teacher. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
