I am Ashley and I'm a student in the Dallas County Community College District. I'm currently obtaining transfer credits for the University of North Texas where I will finish with a bachelor's in Linguistics. I am very involved with the college; I serve as an officer to the philosophy club and I work with foreign students on their conversational English skills. Outside of school, I'm constantly reading, cooking/baking, and attending meetups regarding history, philosophy, and Spanish.
History is a personal interest. I have received As in all history classes, including college. I love all history, but my favorites are American history (revolutionary, reconstruction, cold war, etc.), indigenous tribes in North and South America, and geography.
The approach I take to tutoring is to make the subject personally interesting and fun. We will work together to make that personal connection to the subject. Once we make the connection, I like to take a hands on learning approach. I like to utilize games to help with fact memorization. I also like to discuss the material being studied, it allows for me to assess how much knowledge/factual information is being retained and if you can properly apply it. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
