Louisiana State University (General Studies)
I have been a full-time certified teacher since 2007. I began my career in Louisiana, and relocated to Texas in 2013. I currently hold certifications in both states. I have classroom experience from early childhood (2-year-olds) to 8th grade, with the majority of my experience being with the 4th through 6th grades. I also have wide experience working with students with special needs such as ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, food allergies, and autism spectrum. In 2014, I completed the assessments to become certified to work with ESL students, and in 2015, I added SPED certification as well. As a result, I am well-versed in a variety of strategies to meet the needs of all learners. For the 2015-2016 school year, I have served as the ESL coordinator for a small K-8 charter school district, seeing growth of 15% or more across content areas in this population of students.
I specialize in tailoring lessons to meet a student's individual needs. Our initial meeting will include a content area pre-assessment to accurately pinpoint strengths and weaknesses and develop a long-term strategy for meeting student needs. This may be bypassed if a parent can provide standardized assessment scores (TPRI, ITBS, STAAR, etc). I have been a full-time certified teacher since 2007. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
