Texas Christian University (General Studies)
Although I recently graduated from Texas Christian University, I still feel as though there is still much for me to learn. Education is not static, it's something that is constantly tweaked and rediscovered. My passion for teaching stems from my fascination of the fact that despite all the knowledge humans have accumulated to this day, there is still so much mystery surrounding this world. And although tutoring Middle School Math may seem mundane in comparison, higher-level learning has its foundation that begins with understanding of fundamental truths.
Yes, my aim is to help children get higher scores in their class, but my ambition is to cultivate young minds to see the higher purpose beyond their routine assignments. I accomplish this by understanding the children (their likes, dislikes, interests, goals, and dreams), and relating the material with their lives in a meaningful way. My love of teaching began during my sophomore year in college when I mentored for Big Brothers Big Sisters. It was then that I realized how rewarding of an experience watching a seed grow into a big beautiful tree could be, and ever since then I've wanted to recreate that experience with my future students when I become a professional educator.
I am currently enrolled in a teacher certification program at Region 10 Education Services Center, and I am looking for more hands-on involvement with directly instructing school-age children. I'm raw when it comes to experience, but I am extremely patient and diligent when it comes to helping those in need. I take great satisfaction in knowing I've bettered the life of others in any way. In addition to tutoring Math, I can demonstrate proper study habits, time-management techniques, and life skills that are vital for success in their future.
I am flexible with my availability. Although I have a 24-hour cancellation notice policy, I gladly offer make-up classes.
I have a reliable means of transportation and I would be happy to meet anywhere convenient for you and/or your child. I am very much looking forward to working with you and helping your child not only succeed in the classroom, but become a life-long learner! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
