As an ESL tutor, I focus entirely on your immediate professional or academic needs so that the objective differs with each student.
I hold both an M.Ed. and a PhD in Education and have taught and tutored college students and businessmen/women for 15 years. In addition, I am the lead instructor for a program on the UTD campus that prepares graduate students for job interviews. As such, I use the same methodology with you. I teach you to speak like an American, using American stress, pause, intonation, and expressions. I also help you understand what make you different from other job applicants. I have taught at the university level in China and would love to continue my experience with you.
Here's the process:
- Listen carefully to your spoken English and identify areas for improvement
- Discuss your immediate professional goals and priorities
- With you, create learning goals
- Meet with you at least once a week, in sessions that are 120 minutes long. This provides time for practice.
- Prepare you to use the best English grammar, idioms, and accent for your specific purpose
I hold myself and you to a high standard and am often told that I am their "best English teacher". Thus, I do have current references from students and businessmen just like you!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught at the college level for 20 years, and been involved in the admissions process including reading essays. In addition, I have helped many international students refine their college essays so that they could apply to colleges and universities in the US.
I hold a degree in English and write professionally. I would like to limit my tutoring in the college counseling area to helping with admission essays.
