The Art Institute
Looking for Mr. Miyagi? We'll I can't claim that, but I can teach you what you need to know to shoot and edit video like a professional. I've been in the business for 15 years and have worked for huge production houses, as well as a hired gun or freelancer over the years. After school, I started out as a video engineer learning the equipment in control rooms, studios, field production and live events. It was a great way to learn the infrastructure and equipment used from the ground up. Over time I started shooting and editing for tv commercials, shows, music videos, and film. I guess I've seen most of the ends and outs, the hard work it takes and the fun to be had and the money that can be made in this industry. I currently am working with a couple others to brand a new company from the ground up after taking another from 3 to 20 million in 4 years. I still enjoy working everyday and would not change professions for anything. I'm signing up for this as a way to give back and a cheaper alternative to going to school. I do believe school is never a bad thing, but in this profession if I had it to do over, I would have much preferred to have a mentor than spend the $25,000 at a school when I truly didn't learn much until I luckily got a job and started hands on, in real world situations. I've since known colleagues who used mentors and learned the same things I did with out the big college debt hanging over their head. Anyway, ran across this website and thought I'd offer my experience and knowledge to anyone that might want to take this route, be it a beginner or someone looking to advance their skill-set. I have all the equipment, so if you don't have exactly what you'd need to learn on it's ok.
Feel free to contact me if you're interested or curious.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have had formal training at the Art Institute. I then went to work as a video engineer for 4 years at one of the biggest production houses in Dallas, TX. There I really learned hands on the ins and outs of studio productions, from lighting, and set up of large and small studios, control rooms, post suites, routing, etc. From there for 3 years I went to work as a shooter/editor for the video group, where I honed skills in editing on fcp and avid, and pro tools.
