Louisiana State Univ Graduate School (Graduate Coursework)
Dear Parents and Students,
I earned a BBA with majors in Office Administration and Spanish, completed course work at Universidad Ibero-Americana, Mexico D. F., and graduate coursework at LSU in Spanish. My music education courses were completed at Wesleyan College, Macon, GA, and UT Dallas, where I also received training in the Kodaly Method. I am certified in the State of Texas to teach All-level music, Secondary Spanish, Secondary English, Secondary English Language Arts, and Secondary Business Composite.
I have taught Spanish, English, general music, choir, private voice and piano, and music theory in different settings, including public and private schools, college, and home school. I have over twenty years of experience as teacher, tutor, and mentor of students from age four to college graduate students. I am skilled at laying the foundation of a subject and adapting my teaching to students of different age groups, learning styles, and different abilities. While I so enjoy the subjects I teach, my focus is helping the student to successfully meet his goals.
Let me help you grow in the skills and knowledge of the subject that presents to you a challenge. I welcome the opportunity to assist you.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I was a vocal performance major at Wesleyan College in Macon, GA, and I studied Kodaly Music Education at The University of Texas at Dallas. I studied piano for eight years and then taught beginning piano and voice, which required that I teach music theory. I developed my own curriculum for music for the "principle approach" method at a private Christian school, which demanded that I think through and derive the elements of music and seriously consider the purpose and import of the art. In addition I have taught general music and choir in public and private schools, including students from age five all the way to adults in my church choirs, the principles of notation, sight singing, listening, and creating. One of my strengths is the ability to take all the concepts that one must learn, which can sometimes overwhelm a beginner, and help him lay a solid foundation on which he can build.
After completing my major in Spanish, I continued my studies at Universidad Ibero-americana in Mexico, D. F., and then took graduate courses at LSU.
I have taught beginning Spanish in private schools, home school, and college for over fifteen years. There are many concepts introduced in Spanish during the first two years of high school foreign language, and one of my strengths is the ability to lay a strong, thorough foundation in grammar for my students. I incorporate activities to help my students master concepts such as the alphabet, pronunciation rules, vocabulary, word order, and sentence structure so that their learning experience can be fun, as well as practically useful. My goal is to assist my students in attaining their goals so that they have the satisfaction of a job well done.
