About Liz

Hi. Hola. Bonjour. Howdy. I have been teaching for 17 years. I hold a bachelors degree of Science degree. I was an interdisciplinary studies major with a double minor in elementary education and biology. I am certified through the state of Texas to teach grades 1-8 and Biology. I have taught grades pre-k to 8th grade. My tutoring methods are instructionally based upon your child's needs and are at the level of your child's learning level. Vocabulary based tutoring is also a main focus for my method. I also like to do hands-on manipulative and song-based tutoring. I have written science laboratory curriculum and instructional curriculum. I have also presented three workshops at the Science Teachers Association of Texas Conventions. Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I've worked with special education students ADHD, ADD for the past 16 years. I have been specifically trained in ADHD, ADD in Dallas ISD, Killeen ISD, university of north Texas reading lab and Plano ISD. I have also had 150 professional development hours in the specific area of ADHD and ADD. ADD I have 12 graduate level class credit hours in special education in the field of learning disabilities. Six of these credit hours focused on ADD and ADHD.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I've worked with autistic children for 14 years in my classroom. I've been trained in special education and needs students. I did inclusion teaching with the special education teachers at my schools with autistic children and mainstream students. They loved it and achieved and exceeded their IEP goals every year. I attended ARD meetings and filled out IEPs. I also did master's degree level courses in learning disabilities emphasis on autism, dyslexia, ADD/ADHD, gifted & talented, and ESL/ELL.

Biology

I'm a biology major in college and have a minor in it. Im certified in it in the state of Texas and have taught it for the past 16 years. I wrote curriculum for it.

Common Core

I am an a certified elementary grades 1-8 and biology teacher in the state of Texas and have been for the past 14 years and will be for the next 14. I've taught grades PreK- 7th grade life science and 8th grade earth science. I've also taught for 16 years now in the state of Texas. I e taught the Common Core subjects for 16 years. I'm a master reading, math, and science teacher. I have certificates to prove my master status in these subject areas.

Dyslexia

I have dyslexia myself and I have worked with dyslexic students for over 14 years now doing initial testing and sitting in on ARD meetings. I also have done dyslexic interventions with students in my classroom in small group settings, large group settings, and one one one tutoring sessions.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been certified in the state of Texas for the past ten years in elementary education.I have taught grades Pre-K through 8th grade. I can send my transcripts of years of service indicating this.

Elementary Science

I have taught Science for the past 16 years at all levels. I have audited and written curriculum for Science. I have written my own songs and labs which were adopted by a school district. I'm a master Science teacher. Science is my passion. I have presented worships on various topics at Science Teacher Conventions.

English

I'm a Master Reading and Writing teacher. I have taught these subjects for the past 16 years. I have attend numerous Reading Conferences for Teachers. I've presented workshops on reading techniques and strategies at Master Reading Teacher Conventions.

Flute

I have been playing flute for over 23 years now. I have participated in the UNT Flute Choir for four years. I was an active member of the Texas Flute Society and performed on numerous occasions at the Texas Flute Society Conferences held yearly. I have taken private lessons while in high school from the first chair flutist for the President's Band. I have won several awards for solos and ensembles.

General Music

I have 36 college credit house in music classes. I also have a music minor in flute performance. I have played piano since third grade and flute since fifth grade. I was in choir and made first chair soprano all-region two years in a row. I was in band for 10 years of my life.

Microsoft Windows

I am extremely proficient in Microsoft Windows 7 and Windows 8. I taught computers to grades 1-5 for two years at Fort Hood army base. I Also presented workshops on PowerPoint at the Advancement of Science Teacher Conferences two years for Dallas ISD. I did regular PowerPoint presentations in the classroom for vocabulary that I can show you for vocabulary purposes.

Phonics

While doing my undergraduate degree, I worked as a private tutor for reading challenged students. I had students from pre-emergent to emergent levels. I have also taught Pre-K to second grade reading using the SRA open court phonic reading systems. I have also used McGraw Hill phonics programs.

Special Needs

For the past ten years I have worked with students with all kinds of needs. I have worked with FLS students which consists of Downs Syndrome, cystic fibrosis, multiple sclerosis, wheelchair bound, cancer, autistic, ADHD, emotionally disturbed, mentally challenged, learning disabled, deaf and dyslexic. I'm currently seeking my Master of Science degree in Special Education.

STAAR

I am a certified Texas state teacher and I'm familiar with the STAAR test format. I have been teaching in Texas for over 14 years now. I know the test question format, test question vocabulary, and how to help troubled students with test anxiety since I myself have high test anxiety. I know test taking strategies to help students decipher what types of questions are being asked.

Study Skills

I have taking 24 college hours of classroom management classes and 350 hours of professional development hours on classroom management. I also have taught study skills for eight years to grades 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and special education students. Additionally, I have gone to Harry Wong's 100 First Days of School Professional Development Training on Classroom Management.

TAKS

I am a Texas certified teacher and have been for over 14 years. I am extremely familiar with the TAKS test. I've taught 1st-5th grades, 7th grade science and 8th grade science. I've written and audited curriculum for Plano ISD and Dallas ISD so I'm familiar with TAKS questioning format and vocabulary.
