About Greg

Ever since I was little, computers have been a big part of my life. With my dad a programmer at IBM for over 30 years, I was able to witness the evolution of the PC as I grew up and often found myself amazed by the powers by the little beige box in the basement.

In high school was where I got my first introduction to Photoshop. Tinkering with all the tools, the trial and error was love at first sight - those days in the computer lab, the joy of learning by doing and endless possibilities inspired me to check out other programs, and my passion for computers and design only grew from there.

Now today, the lifelong learning in still and motion graphics, website development, that passion is as strong as ever. Whether something technical about the tools to create beautiful graphics or the way that good design communicates a message, I love that there is always something new to learn.

I look forward to hearing from you, to share some of what I've learned so far on my journey through this digital world.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

General Computer

I am a lifetime computer nerd with three years experience in college working in an IT support position helping students with computer troubleshooting and system building.

Video Production

I began studying After Effects during an internship at the University of Oklahoma.

I immediately fell in love with this program, how it brings together media from all sources: designs from Photohshop and illustrator, 3d models from Maya and Zbrush, video files from other programs or straight from the web... the possibilities are limitless.

Eventually, I was contracted to create promotional animations for events and new construction happening on campus.

Since moving to the Bay Area, I have used my skills to create motion graphics for a number of local business, working on projects such as web streaming advertisements and banner animations. And, since the additional export options first offered in After Effects CS4, the creation of interactive Flash pages.

I'm always working to learn more in this field but my specialty right now is with 3D layers and camera motion, animated typography, and video post production effects.

Greg, asked and listened to why I wanted to learn the application, and then formulated a plan to show me as well as have me navigate the S/W to align with how I wanted to use the Adobe suite given our initial Q&A. I'm very happy with what he was able to show me as well as the leave behind exercise he provided so that I wold practice what we reviewed during out tutorial session.
