I have been teaching for 14 years in the Round Rock/Pflugerville area. I work towards building rapport with students first. I believe it's important to build a relationship with students. As Capturing Kids' Hearts training teaches, "Once you have a child's heart, you have their head." After that, you will be able to instill knowledge and relationship building skills that will last a lifetime with children. I truly enjoy teaching students of all ability levels and hope you will choose me as your tutor.

I have 14 years experience and a passion in my heart for the content areas I work in.

I am available to work most evenings and some weekend afternoons. My schedule in flexible during the week from 4-8 pm.

Public Speaking

Public Speaking

My minor in college was public communications, human relations. I had to learn how to speak to a variety of audiences. I've also had to present different topics I've learned about through professional development opportunities to my department and to the faculty at my school. It's all about building confidence and practicing. I'd be happy to help.

Corporate Training

Grammar,

Grammar

After teaching both 4th and 7th grades, I have acquired many new ways of teaching grammar and everything that goes along with it, such as punctuation, sentence structure and proper use of words to make a better flow to the writing. Both grades have the writing STAAR, so I do all I can to prepare the kids with the most grammar knowledge as possible, If you don't know proper grammar, your writing most likely won't make sense.

Vocabulary

Vocabulary

Teaching vocabulary can be fun. It doesn't have to be rote memorization. Vocabulary can be learned by playing games such as Go Fish, Scrabble or Upwords. It isn't just lists, it's about what academic words are most essential for success in a particular grade level.

Special Needs

ADHD,

ADHD

I have been working with ADD/ADHD students for 10 years in both general and special education settings. Gentle reminders and using velcro and stress balls helps to achieve focus and attention. Also walking and taking brain breaks helps to maintain focus, attention and readiness.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD),

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I have worked with children with Autism for 9 of my 10 years of teaching both in the general education inclusion population, reading location, or functional academic class. I believe that children with Autism needs to be treated with patience. Once they understand a particular person's social cues, they are ready to interact and learn and have fun while doing so.
Dyslexia,

Dyslexia

I have worked with children with Dyslexia for 10 years. 3 of those years have been in a reading classroom. I've learned that larger fonts, colored overlays and strategies help a child with dyslexia read at a higher level to where they can comprehend what they're reading in a more meaningful way. More work just improves Lexile levels, for a deeper understanding. I am a certified teacher currently working as a Language Arts Inclusion Special Education teacher at a middle school.
Special Needs

Special Needs

I have a masters degree in special education. I've been working with kids with learning disabilities, Aspergers, Autism and intellectual disabilities for 10 years. Prior to teaching, I worked for adults with developmental disabilities for 5 years
