First and foremost, my goal as a teacher and a tutor is to provide the structure and motivation to help students obtain greater academic success. I believe that all students can learn, but also acknowledge that there are many distractions in the lives of students that keep them from achieving their potential. Sitting down with a personal tutor can be an excellent ways for students to improve academically, gain confidence, and ultimately improve their grades.
One of the most challenging aspects of teaching is to make every student who walks into the classroom excited about learning. There is no one method in which this can be accomplished which means that a teacher must learn to instinctively know how to best make a lesson successful. In my experience, even the most distant child can become excited about science if it is presented in a way that relates to them. For this reason, I strive to make every lesson educationally valuable to all students by linking each concept to real life issues. It is so rewarding to see a student who was supposedly "weak" in science, become deeply involved in a scientific experiment that has sparked their interest.
What I have enjoyed most about a career in education is the ability to watch students grow through both their successes and failures. I have taught every type of student, from those that are new to the country and still struggling to read English, to those who are in the top of their class and struggling to make it to an Ivy League school. All of these students have shown me that most of them just want to make it in this world and some encouragement and guidance. The most rewarding aspect of this job are the moments when I can provide this for my students and create a series of events that can allow my students to achieve not only greater academic success but life success as well. Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in a passionate and effective biology tutor who will do whatever it takes to ensure my students are successful in reaching their goals. Thanks! My daughter ended her first 9 weeks with a 55 in biology - her first F ever. She then begin working with Stephanie and thanks to her patience and time, my daughter ended the second 9 weeks with an 80. Stephanie not only taught her the biology she needed to pass the class, but also helped her improve her overall study skills and ability to succeed in high school. My daughter worked with Stephanie for about 2 months and then was comfortable and able to succeed in biology the rest of the year on her own. Stephanie was very flexible with timing and easy to work with - I highly recommend her.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a biology teacher and tutor, I strive to help my students understand how the concepts relate to their daily lives instead of just simply memorizing for a test. I find that this makes the class more enjoyable and the student more successful.
