About Derek

I am a current Graduate level student at the University of Houston Clear Lake, pursuing a Master's degree in Physics. During my studies there, I have been regularly assigned as TA for multiple physics-related classes, and as such have extensive experience with helping students relate to their given course material.

Although my main area of study is in physics, I am also knowledgeable in the studies of mathematics, chemistry, and astronomy. So if you need help understanding physics, mathematics, chemistry or astronomy, then I would be glad to assist.

Although I am open to most meeting places, I will generally not meet any students at their residences. All meeting places will preferably take place in public locations with easily available parking (ie not University of Houston's main campus).

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. I may not always be available to respond during certain hours of the day, but I will do my best to respond to any inquiries as quickly as possible.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Astronomy

Besides having taken multiple astronomy-related classes, I have also been regularly working as TA for astronomy courses since Summer of 2015. I will also likely continue being a TA until I graduate in 2017.

Differential Equations

I completed a course in Ordinary Differential Equations in Spring of 2014, and since then have been regularly solving differential equations (including partial differential equations) for the assigned homework in later courses.

Linear Algebra

I have taken Linear Algebra during my Undergraduate years, found it mostly easy, and received an A grade for the class. Because of these things, I should be capable of tutoring students taking Linear Algebra over things such as basis, eigenvalues, matrix transformations, projection of vectors onto one another, and other such subjects related to Linear Algebra.

Physics

I received my bachelor's degree in physics after the Fall 2014 semester, and began my Masters studies in Summer of 2015. I have currently completed the graduate level Classical Mechanics and Math Methods courses so far, so my best tutoring subjects will likely be closely related courses.
