I am a Professional Tutor. I have a background in both teaching and Natural Health along with 18+ years of experience in the medical field as an administrator and a supervisory nurse in diverse fields. Currently, I am a graduate student in two programs, sports medicine and natural medicine.
During my nursing career, I worked in the MICU , Pediatrics, OR, ED, and Neurology / Orthopedics before returning to school to advance my education.

My father was a college professor and passed on to me a passion for both learning and teaching. I graduated at the top of my class at IIN (assoc. /SUNY)

In all of my semesters there, my test scores ranked the highest at the University with only two falling below 100%. They were a 96 & a 94.

I am currently a student at the National Academy of Sports Medicine and Trinity School of Natural Health. I also have a private practice specializing in longevity and integrative sports nutrition.

I have extensive knowledge of all content areas for nursing education, a solid understanding of student needs, experience with all required nursing program exams, both standardized as well as for licensure. I work very well with students of all ages and backgrounds.

My classes are exciting, engaging and dynamic. Many students have expressed how comfortable and confident they have felt while participating in my class.

My goal is to help each student reach theirs and to discover their ability to learn and succeed. I encourage my students to practice problem solving and clinical thinking skills to arrive at a conclusion.

My enthusiasm for teaching is evident and my students understand how much I love to pass on my love of learning. I encourage them to asks questions and for help when they need it.
I look forward to assisting you, and to contributing to your lifelong success.

My father was the chairman of the board of the computer technologies department at the local college where I grew up. He instilled in me a deep understanding of mathematics and I have exceptional skills in making the once difficult seem easy.

My love of science has been a lifelong passion. I excelled at both biology and chemistry in my youth. I was awarded a teachers assistant position in my first few years at college in both biology as well as Anatomy. I then began a paid position teaching
ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY for the paramedics program at ACC. I have also taught 9th grade physical science.
As an ND student, I have taken advanced A&P multiple times over the course of the past 20 years.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ASVAB

I have taken the test, myself, after a great deal of study time. I passed on my first attempt, but it was not an easy test. I have a strong understanding of what can be expected and know the test very well. I believe that anyone would benefit from my help.

Botany

In my academic career, I excelled at botany in lecture and plant biology lab. I was a student lab assistant and helped my peers to understand and learn the material. I have led many study group sessions, created practice tests and study tools. I am well versed in the classification of the plant Kingdom, as well as growth patterns, cuttings, grafts fertilization, and pests and disease. It is with this knowledge that I feel confident in my ability to effectively tutor the college level Botany student.

Cooking

I owned my own restaurant with my ex-husband. I was encouraged to do so by many people who enjoyed the personal recipes I prepared as a "guest chef" at a local Alvin , Texas eatery in the late 1990's. I have been a lifelong amateur chef and have competed in baking, barbecue, and chili contests on the national level. I am well versed in culinary basics, as well as, advanced cooking techniques.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have taught private school Elementary K-6th. I taught Children's Bible as well as all required subjects. I am an enthusiastic teacher who strives to make learning fun and enjoyable. I believe that students who love learning as children, grow up to excel as adults.

Elementary Math

I tutor Elementary K-6th, intermediate, and ACT-MATH. I feel that children who possess a strong foundation in math, excel in later years.

Fitness

My minor education is in Sports & Human Performance. My love for fitness began in the 1980's during the Jane Fonda / Jack LaLanne fitness revolution. I was a trainer at Bally's total fitness. Over the years I have learned the most modern fitness modalities and continued to evolve with modern advances. I am currently a student in the National Academy of Sports Medicine. My specialties include, injury prevention and recovery, modified fitness for the diseased and disabled, as well as, weight loss and peak performance for the athlete. I will complete my term at NASM in May 2016.

Nutrition

I am a 2013 honors graduate of the Institute of Integrative Nutrition in New York.
I have tested with a 100% proficiency in more than 100 of the most popular and common dietary programs, medical diets, and specialty diets. My full time career, apart from tutoring, is as an Integrative Nutrition councilor in a private practice. My specialties at my practice are: sports nutrition, weight management, gastrointestinal specialty diets, and eating disorders. I am a member of the National Association of Drugless Practitioners (NADP), as well as the Global Association of Holistic Psychotherapists (GAHP). As a former nurse, I have a deep understanding of medically prescribed diets, as well.

I am ,also, we'll versed in adult and pediatric drug calculations and conversions. I attended a Christian high school and was a bible study teacher for children in the mornings and adults in the evening at the associated Church. I took Comparative Religion for elective credit in college. I organized and led a large study group of my peers. I feel confident tutoring children, as well as adults on the subject.

Study Skills

In college I organized and ran several study groups. I was also a peer tutor. I gathered and provided the study materials and was orator in the group study. I have learned what works and what doesn't. I, myself, am a proficient test taker. Before graduating in 2013 from IIN, my exam scores fell below 100% on only two occasions.
I attribute this to stress, as the two exams were the mid term and final in my last semester. I scored a 96% and a 94% respectively.

Swimming

I began swimming lessons at the age of 4, as my mother could not swim and had a fear of drowning. I joined my first competitive local swim team at age 7. I was on, both, my Jr. High and High School swimming and diving teams. In college, I minored in Sports and Human Performance and continued to swim and obtain my SCUBA certification thru PADI.
