I graduated magna cum laude with a Master of Science degree in biology and a Master of Education degree. I have been fortunate to teach a wide variety of subjects at many different grade levels for 28 years before retiring. I am thankful to be able to continue to use my academic training and classroom teaching experience to tutor students in many subjects both in person and online. It is truly a fulfilling experience to see my students become more capable and confident at skills that were once difficult for them. I was also honored to be a Top 10% Wyzant Tutor for 2019.
My goal in working with my students is to make concepts understandable using different methods that are suited to each person's learning style. I also want to get to know my students as individuals, and learn about their interests and talents.
I have five years of experience teaching 7th grade math, and one year of experience teaching prealgebra. I have also worked with students during the school day and after school doing math, science, and reading STAAR interventions.
In addition to having an undergraduate and graduate degree in biology, I taught general biology classes and an ecology class as an interim instructor at Stephen F. Austin State University. While working in different public schools, I taught integrated science courses which covered physical science, chemistry, biology, and earth science concepts at the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade levels.
I am certified to teach all subjects in grades 1-8, as well as high school biology. I also have taught 7th grade Texas History for one year and 6th grade world geography for one year. I currently have the pleasure of tutoring math, reading, pre algebra, algebra and science to students ranging from 3rd grade to adult. In addition, I have assisted undergraduate and graduate students at the university level with proofreading and writing.
I hope to work with you soon and see you become more confident and successful in your studies!

Sheryl is a great math teacher! She's prepared, engaging, understands how to make the best of remote tutoring, utilizes the tools effectively, and communicates clearly. Our child seems to retain the information that she learns from her lessons with Sheryl, and looks forward to them each week.Tonya, 30 lessons with SherylTutor responded:

Extraordinarily patient tutor!
Sheryl worked through individual algebra 1 problems making sure every step was clear. She was so level-headed and encouraging that my son, who initially did not want to participate, kept doing more problems. We will schedule another lesson or 10!Marcie , 4 lessons with SherylTutor responded:

Clear explanation and great patience.
Sheryl is a so kind and patience teacher. My 6 yo girl has a violin lesson and this was the very time to play. (We got her violin just one day before and we have no idea even how to hold it!) Sheryl gave her a great lesson with pictures and my daughter enjoyed her class. I was so happy to have Sheryl 's lesson. Thank you.Kiyoko, 7 lessons with SherylTutor responded:

Very Patient and Kind Tutor
Mrs. Sheryl is such a wonderful tutor. She works with my 11 year old son and helps him with his math. She has a way of making the learning easy to understand. She paces herself and reviews skills that my son was not able to grasp in the classroom. Her rates are reasonable and the Wyzant platform is user friendly. My son is able to log in to his sessions independently. Thank you Mrs. Sheryl for the support you have provided for my son!! :)Alethia, 25 lessons with SherylTutor responded:
