I completed a Master of Science degree in biology and a Master of Education degree from Stephen F. Austin State University, and graduated with a GPA of 3.8. I have been fortunate to teach a wide variety of subjects at many different grade levels over the past 28 years before retiring. I am thankful to be able to continue to use my academic training and classroom teaching experience to tutor students in many subjects both in person and online. It is truly a fulfilling experience to see my students become more capable and confident at skills that were once difficult for them.

My goal in working with my students is to make concepts understandable using different methods that are suited to each person's learning style. I also want to get to know my students as individuals, and learn about their interests and talents.

I have five years of experience teaching 7th grade math, and one year of experience teaching 7th grade prealgebra. I also worked with students during the school day and after school doing math and science STAAR interventions.

In addition to having an undergraduate and graduate degree in biology, I taught general biology classes and an ecology class as an interim instructor at Stephen F. Austin State University. While working in public school systems, I taught integrated science courses which covered physical science, chemistry, biology, and earth science concepts at the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade levels. While teaching 8th grade, I prepared my students for the science STAAR test.

I am certified to teach all subjects in grades 1-8, as well as high school biology. I also have taught 7th grade Texas History for one year and 6th grade world geography for one year. I currently have the pleasure of tutoring elementary math, elementary reading, grammar, and elementary science to students in the 3rd through 8th grade, as well as high school and college biology. In addition, I have assisted undergraduate and graduate students at the university level with proofreading and writing.

I hope to work with you soon and see you become more confident and successful in your studies!

Very Patient and Kind Tutor

Mrs. Sheryl is such a wonderful tutor. She works with my 11 year old son and helps him with his math. She has a way of making the learning easy to understand. She paces herself and reviews skills that my son was not able to grasp in the classroom. Her rates are reasonable and the Wyzant platform is user friendly. My son is able to log in to his sessions independently. Thank you Mrs. Sheryl for the support you have provided for my son!! :)
