Sam Houston State University (Art)
I am a graduate of Sam Houston State University, graduating in 1972. My major was art, minored in math, and secured my teaching certificate upon graduating college. My first teaching job was with Henderson I.S.D. in Henderson, TX teaching 8th grade remedial math. I taught school for a year before going into the private sector. Throughout the years working in the private sector, i maintained my teaching skills and continued to develop them as I trained numerous other employees to the jobs I held using a one-on-one hands-on approach. My methods are simple and will reference business practices to show how they apply to the business world. I try to inspire the students to think for themselves and provide guidance where it is needed most. I prefer teaching Elementary Math, Pre-algebra I, Algebra I and Remedial math and will consider other subjects such as English grammar and spelling and occasionally, art which was my college major. I am retired now and want to continue to help educate those that need an extra boost over their next hurdle in life.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Possess a Bachelors degree from Sam Houston State University with a minor in math and Texas Teacher's Certification. Obtained additional math credits in order to teach Title IX 8th grade remedial math in the Henderson, Texas ISD in 1972. That work experience required my creation of a non-standard curriculum which was based on real life projects, i.e. catalog ordering, check book entries/calculations/reconciliations and real life word problem solving in such areas as passing written driver's license examinations. Curriculum was adapted to students ranging in age from 13 to 18 with various reading levels from 2nd to 5th grade levels. Most current math teaching experience has been as a substitute in the Montgomery ISD.
