B.A. Texas A&M University Kingsville (Psychology)
My name is Priscilla, and I am a graduate of Texas A&M University Kingsville with a major concentration in Psychology and a minor in Sociology. I currently work full-time as a Service Coordinator with Driscoll Children's Hospital and I manage cases for children with disabilities which I enjoy. I am currently working on getting my alternative teaching certification because I would like to work in the school setting and I love children. I have volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club, my own schools, and various church programs tutoring children.
What I enjoy about tutoring is that I am giving someone the opportunity to learn, to find their learning styles, and to excel and finally enjoy the subject they once disliked. I know that it can be disheartening when you feel lost and you're trying hard to comprehend, but the most important thing is that you don't give up and that you seek the appropriate help that is out there.
I have excelled in Mathematics since I was in elementary school. I tutored younger children in math when I was in the 5th and 6th grade, and I was in advanced math course as well. I tutored children at the elementary math, Prealgebra, and Algebra 1 levels at the Boys and Girls Club. I received my degree with honors (Summa Cum Laude) to also include an all "A" average in Algebra and Statistics.
For one, I love Psychology and all that comes with it! That is why I majored in this area. I believe that it is a vital component in everyday life, interpersonal communications, and relationships to understand how our minds work.
I have always excelled in my writing skills because I love oral and written communication as well as reading. I was a recipient of several U.I.L. awards growing up. I was also chosen out of many elementary schools in my hometown for the D.A.R.E. essay contest referenced to Enrique Camarena, D.E.A. agent killed in the line of duty. That is something I hold very close to my heart as the essay was being chosen by his surviving spouse. Overall, I enjoy helping others learn that writing can be fun, easy, and allows you to explore a variety of things.
I encourage students to not give up just because a subject seems too hard. We all learn at a different pace and everyone's learning styles vary. It is okay to take a bit longer to grasp a certain concept as long as you are trying your best. If you give it your best and not quit, you will achieve progress and eventually get to the goal of comprehension, application, and hopefully mastery of the desired subject. I, as well as other tutors, are here to help you learn. Contact me for questions, and I appreciate your trust in my abilities! Good luck students!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
