About Dana

As a veteran public school teacher for 23 years, I have been able to facilitate the learning and success of many children. Education is my passion. Helping children is my mission.

In addition to being a certified elementary teacher, I am also a dyslexic therapist and an ESL teacher of children and adults.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I have worked with students for 23 years in the public school system. In these years of teaching I have attended numerous professional development seminars regarding the subject of teaching students with ADD/ADHD. I feel confident that with my years of experience that I am able to help children with ADD/ADHD perform successfully.

Dyslexia

I have successfully completed 150 plus hours of dyslexic therapy teaching through the Scottish Rite hospital's Luke Waite's Dyslexic Teacher program. I have taught the Take Flight curriculum program successfully for 2 years to public and private school students.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a Texas certified teacher of K-8 students. I have taught in the public school system for 23 years. During this time I have taught students of diversified economic and academic backgrounds.

Handwriting

As an elementary teacher for 23 years, handwriting was a subject that was taught often in my classroom. Whether it be print or cursive, I feel adept at teaching students to correctly form letters of the English alphabet.

Phonics

In addition to teaching young elementary children for 23 years in phonics, I have attended many professional staff development workshops on the subject of phonics. Also, I am a dyslexic therapist which afforded me even more hands on teaching of phonics to children.
