About Kevin

Hello, and thank you for considering me! I have significant experience working with children and adolescents mentoring / tutoring / teaching.

I am currently employed as a Mathematics teacher with 2 years experience teaching Algebra 1 and Algebra 2. I am TExES Mathematics 8-12 certified in subjects including: Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus. I can definitely tutor younger grades also.

I got my start working with kids when I was younger, skipping my high school lunch once a week to mentor local Elementary School students. The rewarding feeling I received when helping kids hooked me in. Since then, I have been tutoring and mentoring students for the last 12 years.

In May 2012, I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Child Learning and Development and another Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the University of Texas at Dallas with Latin Honors Magna Cum Laude. While in school, I conducted research for the Blackberry Project examining adolescent cell phone use, which was very interesting to say the least.

I have had great success with the young adolescents I work with. Some children just need a good role model to talk to, while others are struggling with subject matter. A lot of the problem, in my experience, generally stems from either organization or motivation. I do not just want to tutor your child. I want to set them up to be successful in life. I am not your "typical" math tutor as students generally find me "cool" and are willing to work for me. NOTE: by no means do I actually think I am "cool"; gave up on that a while ago :) . I try to make education as fun as possible.

My forte is in mathematics, where the last assessment I took, I scored a perfect score on the Math SAT. Also, Science is a strong suit, as I took two years of college-level Physics in high school and several Biology courses throughout college. English is equally a strong subject for me, due to the literary nature of the many psychological reports I have completed. My father was a high school mathematics teacher and business teacher for 15+ years, and my wife is currently a 3rd grade elementary school teacher for over 6 years. I surround myself with people who love helping children. I am ready to help right away.

In my spare time, I enjoy many hobbies: playing guitar, rock climbing, gardening, reading, video games, and in general being outdoors with friends. I have been married almost 2 years to my beautiful wife Sarah, and we enjoy traveling across the US when we can.

Thank you for your consideration thus far. Please let me know if you have any specific questions I can answer for you.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Prealgebra

I teach algebra 1 and algebra 2 in high school.
