I have more than thirteen years of experience as a Spanish teacher for kids two years old to high school students in private schools in Dallas, Plano, and Allen TX. I have many years of experience as a tutor for students of the Allen, McKinney, and Plano ISD schools, and adults as well. I am currently a Spanish teacher part-time in a private school in Plano, TX for high school students. In the afternoons I work independently as a tutor. My teaching style is very conversational, if you are thinking to improve your Spanish skills for your work or business, I will share my experience in the business world, so you feel more confident learning what you really need.

Before coming to the United States, I worked for twenty two years as an executive in the business world in my native Colombia. I have been a teacher for more than fourteen years. I chose to be a teacher because I believe becoming a life-long learner is a way to a happy and productive life. I like to share my excitement for learning with children.

Since deciding to become a teacher, I have been totally dedicated in learning successful teaching strategies that provides the best knowledge to my students. For me, teaching is a special mission, and I have worked very hard to make a unique contribution in my students’ life. I can see through my students the leaders of the future. I help them to discover their potential, their uniqueness that can only be reached with an “I can do” attitude.

I like to make children feel recognized and rewarded for being and doing their best. I will find out their motivations, their learning style, I will praise their strengths; I will work hard on their weaknesses, even if it requires extra-time on my part. Being a tutor is my passion, helping students to go through the experience of learning a language, and seeing them gain confident about their Spanish skills is very rewarding for me. It is an honor to receive compliments from parents while I am teaching their children. Then, saying that their Spanish teachers have seen positive changes in the students under my tutoring. This motivates me to be more creative about my teaching strategies to make them more successful.

My First Lesson

I have a goal to become conversationally fluent in Spanish. I took Spanish classes in high school and have retained some vocabulary but am not confident in my speech. Learning a language as an adult is challenging. She was very patient and encouraging with me. She told me to focus on listening and talking versus taking notes. That way I can focus on the thing which I am the most uncertain: speaking. She even brought with her hand-made, blank flash cards upon which she would write phrases for me to practice at home. I am very encouraged about my upcoming sessions with Maricris and feel like she will help me achieve my goal. Thank you Maricris!

We've had several sessions with Maricris and my daughter has enjoyed each and everyone one of them. She's in Kindergarten and learning Spanish for the the very first time. Knowledgeable and Patient Tutor

I had my first session with Maricris today and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Maricris is helping me with my Spanish fluency and comprehension and I feel very comfortable speaking with her and asking her clarifying questions. I like that the class was a dialogue, using real world conversation to learn Spanish. I also liked that we wrote things down as we went, so that I could visually see the Spanish words and document new phrases. Not only did I learn a lot in my first class, she also gave me great ideas to practice outside of the classroom. I left our session enthusiastic to learn more. I already have another lesson planned with her!

My son(8th grader) had struggled in learning Spanish before he met Maricris. But after he had several lessons with her, he gained confidence in Spanish. Within a couple of months, he began to receive high scores in his Spanish class at school.
