About Mark

I am an accomplished technical problem-solver with over 18 years of professional experience in teaching, medical imaging, image processing, optical engineering, and defense. I have an advanced scientific education with outstanding technical, communication and leadership skills. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with University Honors from Texas A&M University with a B.Sc. in Physics. I hold an M.Sc. in Physics, also from Texas A&M, and a Ph.D. in Radiological Science / Medical Imaging from the UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.

From 2006-2015, I was the Chairperson of an academic program in Biomedical Engineering Technology (BMET) at the Dallas Metro DeVry University. In this role, I oversaw the educations of dozens of our finest students. Before this, I made contributions to the Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) program at Raytheon Missile Systems, a LIDAR project for the US Navy, and an optical analyzer for the Air Force Research Laboratory. I hold three recently-awarded US patents.

My tutoring philosophy is straightforward: give the student his/her money's worth. I don't beat around the bush - I get straight to the point. Your time is valuable. You are paying for results. I want to give them to you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I was a Physics major in school. Algebra 1 is easy for me. Many people have told me that I am very good at explaining how to solve problems in math.

Algebra 2

I was a Physics major in school, and a professor of engineering Technology at DeVry for nearly nine years. Algebra 2 is an easy topic for me.

Astronomy

Astronomy is my favorite scientific subject. I am an amateur astronomer. I use a beautiful Celestron SC telescope to view the skies. I know much about the sky, and can answer many questions about the Sun, the Moon, the planets, the stars, nebulae, and galaxies. I am a huge fan of Carl Sagan'S COSMOS television program too!

Calculus

I was a Physics major in school, and Calculus is an easy topic for me.

Differential Equations

I have both a B.S. and a M.S. in Physics. At this level, physics makes heavy use of differential equations, especially in electromagnetism, wave theory, heat flow, and quantum mechanics. I took a dedicated math course in this subject as an undergraduate.

Discrete Math

I hold both B.S. and M.S. degrees in Physics. My doctorate is in Radiological Science (an applied field of physics). In my courses, we applied many techniques of discrete math, especially in the fields of statistical mechanics and quantum. I can still distinctly remember those sections of the textbook!

Finite Math

I hold B.S. and M.S. degrees in Physics, and a doctorate in Medical Imaging (a form of applied physics). Finite math generally consists of a collection of math topics, including basic probability, linear programming, matrices (methods for solving systems of linear equations), and pre-calculus. I have studied all of these in the course of my scientific education.

Linear Algebra

I have two degrees in Physics. As a physics major, I took a required course in Linear Algebra. Where I really learned it though was in my courses in Quantum Mechanics. Quantum makes heavy use of linear algebra in its matrix formulation of problems.

MATLAB

I first began to learn MATLAB on the job. I have used MATLAB extensively for work in signal and image processing. Since then, I have made heavy use of it at DeVry University, where I was an instructor for almost 9 years.

Physics

I have a B.Sc. and a M.Sc. in Physics from Texas A&M University. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a 4.0 GPA in my major. I taught Physics for almost nine years as a professor of Engineering Technology at DeVry. I was told by many that I was a very popular professor among the students.

VERY Knowledgeable and works with our schedule

He was the first tutor to connect with our child and explain things in a way she could understand. We live in a very advanced school district. He has done wonders in her AP Algebra 2 class.
