Hi! My name is Layla and I graduated from Washington University in St. Louis magna cum laude with a double major in Biochemistry and Political Science and a minor in Anthropology. I began my tutoring career supporting K-12 students in subjects ranging from elementary math to AP Chemistry. During my time as a tutor, I learned how to individually tailor my session and teaching approach to each student’s individual needs incorporating humor, organizational tools, and study skills to help students not only succeed in the subjects I taught them but learn how to tackle the material independently.
After 2 years of supporting students in this capacity, I transitioned to ACT/SAT prep after self-studying for the ACT and scoring a 36. While studying, I amassed numerous resources, time management techniques for the test, pattern recognition skills, and learned how to incorporate practice problems into study plans. I utilized this background to help various students meet their target goals. I truly believe that ANY student can get the score they want on these standardized tests with the right amount of preparation and the right attitude. I instill in my students the understanding that these tests are not IQ tests, but rather tests that follow a very predictable pattern that any student can master. Many students approach these exams with the wrong attitude and are mentally blocking themselves from reaching their highest potential. Through encouragement and the development of confidence in the material, I instill in students the ability to feel completely assured in their ability to do well on test day. I am eager to work with your student!
