My journey as an educator began in the fall of 2019, when I tutored SAT/ACT Test Prep while working full time as a paraprofessional at a local middle school. Over the following year, I completed five teaching certifications (including Core Subjects (4-8), Special Education (EC-12), and Science of Teaching Reading), and became a professional teacher for Special Education English and Reading at the middle school level.
I still teach full time during the school year, and my three years of experience have yielded ample experience in one-on-one, small group, and full-size classroom settings. I am also well-versed in the appropriate use of accommodations and modifications during instruction.
As a tutor, I aim to provide students with a relevant skillset that is tied intimately to their goals as students of the English language, and more broadly, as people. I embrace holistic pedagogical principles, and firmly believe that learning begins with authentic engagement, and that the best learning is done in a state of play. My pedagogical style strikes a balance between fun yet focused, systematic instruction. It's important to me not to waste my students' time with needless information -- and it's equally important to me that I help my students discover the enormous freedom and well-being that come from learning something useful and valuable, so that after my instruction they are inspired to be lifelong learners.
