About Angee

I'm a Ph.D. student in clinical psychology with a specific focus in advanced statistical methods. I have gone to school for nearly all of my life, and I have encountered some amazing teachers along the way that have shaped my learning styles and my teaching styles. I've also encountered some not-so-great teachers throughout my education, and this has shaped my tutoring and teaching style even more so. What I have learned from teaching and tutoring students is that material needs to be presented in a way that is as hands on as possible in order for it to be engaging. I also try to be as creative as possible with my lesson plans, because I know that every student has different needs and I want to meet them where they are at to optimize their learning experience. Most importantly, I always have my students practice the material on their own because that is the only way to ensure they are grasping the material.

As a Ph.D. student, I have been either a teaching assistant or an instructor of record (meaning I taught my own course) for the past four years. These classes have been as large as 60 students and as small as 5 students, and I also worked with students one-on-one, as needed, during office hours. I have taught advanced statistical analyses, specifically multilevel modeling, at the graduate-level across SAS, R, SPSS, and Mplus statistical platforms, and a variety of psychology courses both at the undergraduate- and graduate-level. Students ages in these courses ranged from 17-40. I have received 4.5+ (out of 5) teaching evaluations in all of my courses and won a teaching award for the best advanced statistical analysis instructor. Throughout these experiences, I have grown to love the challenge of teaching.

I have received advanced training in psychological methods and statistical analyses at the graduate level. I also am continually involved in scientific research and have approximately six years of experience working on research projects for publication. I have also taught an advanced statistics lab, where I taught students syntax in SAS, R, SPSS, and Mplus. Given this, I have significant experience de-bugging syntax, and I am very familiar with writing my own syntax (and often can write commonly-used syntax from memory)! Therefore, not only do I have personal experience working in statistics and in these statistical platforms, but I also have experience teaching statistics and syntax to students in a way that is comprehensible.

I also have a master's degree in public health where I gained experience in biostatistics. Ultimately, the statistics are not very different from statistics used in other fields (like psychology), which means in total I have significant experience in this area. I also have an undergraduate degree in biology, which means I have some understanding of biological concepts that would be beneficial as a biostatistics tutor. Finally, as stated above, I have several years of experience teaching a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in psychology, which would make me an excellent tutor in this area. I have accumulated a lot of psychology books over the years throughout my own studies, which would help me be creative with lesson plans for any specific need in the broad area of psychology. For my degree in public health, I maintained a 4.0 GPA, and I have maintained a GPA of 4.0 throughout my Ph.D. program, which I believe speaks to my command of the material I am most interested in tutoring!

Overall, I am highly educated, motivated individual with significant teaching experience in areas where students often need a little extra help. I am easy to reach and will be available through the WyzAnt mobile application to respond to inquiries as soon as possible to best serve YOU! Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Biostatistics

In my Master's in Public Health program, I received training in biostatistics. Since this course, I have also received advanced training in statistics. Although my statistics is mostly in psychology, I have an undergraduate degree in biology, which will help me understand the biological concepts to a degree when tutoring biostatistics. Ultimately, statistics is statistics, and I have a significant amount of experience in this area.

Proofreading

I'm a Ph.D student with 10 peer-reviewed publications in APA style. As a result, I have significant writing experience and attention-to-detail. Given this experience, I am able to proofread generally for grammar, and for APA style (if that is needed).

R

Throughout my Ph.D. program, I have been exposed to R in my own research, as well as in my graduate course work. Most recently, I was the teaching assistant for an advanced statistics course where I instructed students in R (and other statistical platforms). Students in this course ranged from individuals who had never used R to R experts. Given this, I have experience teaching students R with a wide range of syntax abilities. In this experience, I myself also become more comfortable finding syntax on the internet, de-bugging code, and navigating the R message boards for help in a specific area.

SPSS

I have experience teaching SPSS syntax and data analysis to students at the undergraduate and graduate level. I also use SPSS in my own research so I am familiar with this platform for many types of analyses.

Statistics

I'm a Ph.D. student with advanced stats training. I've also taught stats classes, and I'm heavily involved in research meaning I'm actively involved in research design, data analysis, and interpretation with real data.
