About Julie

I love teaching and tutoring. Seeing the light bulb go off when helping someone learn is one of my favorite things! I have a BSc in Biology, MSc in Wildlife Ecology, and PhD in Biology. Teaching is something I did for the majority of my graduate school years, and I taught anatomy for 8 years and biology for 1 year. I also tutored at Texas Tech in anatomy, physiology, and biology. While at Tech, I received two Outstanding Teaching Awards. If you need help in biology or anatomy, I know I can help you! Bringing the language of science to layman's terms my specialty!

I listen to my students concerns and tailor the lesson to their needs. I have created pop quizzes and know of many quality YouTube videos to help explain material. I use visual stimulation and real life examples to help students learn concepts.

If you want someone with years of experience helping students learn anatomy and biology, I can help you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anatomy

I taught anatomy labs at The university level for 8 years. I also tutored in anatomy for 1 year.

Genetics

For both my master's and PhD, I worked in genetics labs. I extracted DNA, and performed PCR and sequencing methods. I analyzed sequence, microsatellite, amplified fragment length polymorphism, and chromosome data for my research projects. My master's research was geared towards population genetics and my dissertation research used phylogenetic methods.

Zoology

During graduate school, I worked with bats and rodents. We would take extensive field trips throughout the state, and even once through Mexico, and identify all the bats and rodents we caught. I have taken Mammology and taught Anatomy, both Zoology courses. I am currently working with birds and parasites, which adds to my diverse knowledge of animals.
