Denison University (Classics)
Texas Tech University (Master's)
I am a current graduate student at Texas Tech pursuing my MA in Classics. I study both ancient Greek and Latin, but my main focus is in archaeology. I was awarded the best graduate student from my department this year. While in undergrad, I received my BA in Classics but have taken classes in Sociology/Anthropology, Art History, Geology, History, and several others.
I believe the most important aspect of teaching is mentor-ship. Students should always feel like they matter in the classroom and that they are being heard. Thus, this is the foundation of my teaching method. While I am strict in terms of preparation and attention, it should be a relaxed environment where the student is comfortable.
During my undergraduate career, I was a Greek and Latin tutor for my department. I have also done tutoring as part of my volunteer work. Currently I am a teaching assistant in the Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures Department at TTU, so I regularly meet with students to review as well as guest lecture in my classes. I love when students get excited about what they learn and are able to approach the material through a critical framework.
My research focus in archaeology and I have worked on several excavations. I also use anthropological and sociological theories in my research.
I have taken Ancient Greek for five years. I have studied Homeric, Attic, and Ionic Greek through translating Homer through Hellenistic works.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My current research is about Late Bronze Age archaeology. Besides doing research, I have taken archaeology classes. I have also worked on the Azoria Project on Crete and will be participating in two excavations this summer in Greece.
