About Paula

I am a certified teacher of 25+ years I specialize in reaching and teaching students of all abilities!

I have taught each and every on-grade level subject from K-8th grade. As a "Special Educator," I believe all students can achieve when lessons match their teaching style! Please do not be confused by the "Special Education" title! Each year of my experience I have identified at least one of my students as gifted and talented! I have taught children to walk and talk, as well as achieve academic material 3-5 years above their current grade level placement. I have taught many students who have had negative learning experiences which have impacted their self-confidence regarding school. I am a highly skilled motivator and believe in working with the whole child! Whether filling in gaps, learning math skills, or teaching your child to outline a project , I want your child to enjoy the learning process!

I am happy to work with you as a parent or with your child's teacher to insure continuity of learning!

You will find I am extremely flexible regarding times and meeting places, I am happy to accommodate your family's schedule including meeting your child at school, during afterschool care, or your home, etc.

As the parent of an amazing child on the Autism Spectrum, I assure you I will bring nothing but the highest expectations for success to each session!

I have had the unique experience of teaching self-contained mixed grade level classes through out my career. I am extremely familiar with each grade levels content, scope, and sequence of skills. In addition I have always taught my students based on their individual abilities and not to their assigned grade levels! I have taught 1st grade students the 5th grade math curriculum and children labeled as non-verbal to speak! With such an emphasis on standardized testing in Texas, I have learned that good teachers don't have to teach to the test, they simply need to teach!

Each year I have had at least one child achieve 100% Competency on the standardized tests ! Teaching by using multi-modality methods of instruction and engaging hands on materials , I strive to instill a love of learning, and sense of accomplishment to each learner!

If you are looking for a Special Educator, I am the best you will find! I am certified in ED/LD/Autism and more. I am a life long learner myself and passionate regarding learning the newest trends in education and discovering ways to better teach my students.

I would love to talk with you about how I can best help your child get the most out of their education, whether assisting with homework, outlining long term projects, or filling in the gaps! I look foreword to your call!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

The majority of students and tutees I have taught have been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD ,exceeding 90% of the students I've worked with.
