Classical and Modern Languages & Literatures (Master's)
My love of teaching stems from a love of knowledge and the path to it's acquisition, the learning journey. My studies began in English rhetoric and composition in my undergraduate career at Texas State University in San Marcos, Tx; I also received a minor in Mass Communications as well. I'm currently attending Texas Tech University Graduate College studying Applied Linguistics, and hoping to become a professor. I have an untamable passion for language and all that its study encompasses. English is something that can be highly satisfying to a learner, and strong writing skills are always extremely marketable skills.
I love having fun, and laughter! I like to encourage a learning environment where students feel comfortable enough to make mistakes. I want to encourage students to like learning, even subjects that are challenging to them. One of my goals as a tutor is to leave students with the skills to solve problems while studying the English language in whatever modality they are faced with such as reading, writing, speaking, or listening. I do have high expectations for students, and expect them to come prepared to each session (especially for test-prep purposes), however I will not charge for any session where the student or parent feels unsatisfied.
During my 4 year degree at Texas State my main focus was the composition and rhetoric of the English language; I have studied many works of literature from all over the world along with American literature over various time periods, and also mythology. I have studied the science of grammar and syntax from my undergraduate career to date as a Graduate student of Linguistics, and have also been educated in the various techniques and requirements of standardized tests that are required to prove English proficiencies in many different settings. I also have knowledge of language acquisition, and have presented many different facets of research over the most effective grammar and language instruction that promotes acquisition. As a byproduct and requirement of this type of education, my writing and editing skills are exemplary.
My type of tutoring style is accessible to anyone willing to learn, and I am very outgoing and easily relatable. I would love to assist you in your endeavors to become stronger in whatever genre of English, and encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
