About Leah

Hello!

My name is Leah and I am currently an undergraduate Art Education major at Lubbock Christian University. I will be student teaching in the spring and finishing my teaching certification in May of 2015. I have already completed my competences exam and am certified in my knowledge of all areas of art - whether it is in lecture or studio. While I have yet to have a classroom of my own, I have taught and design several classes in the Lubbock Area, also teaching private lessons in my spare time.

I love all aspects of art, and had my own gallery showing here in Lubbock a month ago. 3 of my pieces will be shown in a gallery in Washington State, April of 2015, and I will present a lecture over the link between Memory and Identity as it is displayed in these specific artworks. I hope to have several more in the years and months to come.

For tutoring, I have selected a very open, public place for meetings: J&B Coffee Company. I feel that this puts at ease any fear of meeting with an initial stranger, and plus who doesn't love a delicious drink while bogged down with busy work?

My personality is very patient, kind, open, and a tad quirky (as all good artists should be!). Beyond the classroom, I worked as a camp counselor for two years at Pine Springs Summer Camp in New Mexico, and this past summer was the Camp Manager. Needless to say, I love people, and am not a stranger to deadlines and responsibility, but am also very willing to be flexible!

I hope to work with you in any field of art, and though I have only listed Music Theory as another Fine Art field, I am quite adept to any of the fine arts, having played piano for 18 years, competed at the state level, and am also certified in as many music theory exams as the state will allow. I also sing Alto, and was a member of the Texas All-State Choir in 2011.

I hope to meet you soon and work towards accomplishing your goals in your art field!

- Leah

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Drawing

I will finish my BA in Art education spring 2015, had a gallery opening in October 2014, will be showing three pieces at a conference in Washington State in April 2015, and I have competed in several competitions, locally and state-wide. I have done private lessons, and also taught/implemented several classroom lessons around the local area in schools, also completing commissioned portraits when requested. Drawing was my first love in the art field, and always holds closeness in the mastery of my craft.

Painting

I will finish my BA in Art education spring 2015, had a gallery opening in October 2014, will be showing three pieces at a conference in Washington State in April 2015, and I have competed in several competitions, locally and state-wide. I have done private lessons, and also taught/implemented several classroom lessons around the local area in schools, also completing commissioned portraits when requested. Painting specifically is something I have learned to master overtime, and specifically am adept in acrylics. My tutoring style with painting would be much more specific to what the student wants to accomplish rather than what I would like to see changed or developed. Painting is a slow craft to master and I will offer other artists as references and influences. I believe art is personal, and thus the tutoring must be tailed personally.
