Hello prospective students, I'm Manny, a current medical student at UTRGV. I enjoy discussing concepts of math and science. When learning is about understanding and applying, it becomes much more useful than when it's forced memorization for testing purposes. My goal is always to make my learning and teaching useful.

Hello prospective students, I'm Manny, a current medical student at UTRGV. I enjoy discussing concepts of math and science. When learning is about understanding and applying, it becomes much more useful than when it's forced memorization for testing purposes. My goal is always to make my learning and teaching useful.
As a pre-med student studying for the MCAT, I decided to tutor Cell Biology. I remembered how much I enjoyed that course and how important the subject matter was for the MCAT. As a tutor, I realized teaching is a method of learning. When you learn with me you'll teach with me, because teaching is a true test of mastery. If you can teach I'll know you've learned.
Math for Algebra 1/2, SAT, and precalculus is all descriptions of lines and functions. If the student can be taught the concept of math as a tool, rather than chaotic letters and numbers, then they are free to see it as a language of lines and functions. My goal as a math tutor is to teach it as a language with easy rules that are manipulated to describe desired functions.
I did really well on my MCAT exam and was accepted to medical school partially because of my score. More importantly, I know now what resources were useful and not. Helping others navigate the process itself is as valuable as learning the tested content.
Spend an hour with me and learn how to learn. Overcoming material that you struggle with is great, but learning to learn frees you from the anxiety that comes up when you feel like you just don't get it. Sometimes the resource you have just doesn't speak to you. Realizing what isn't working is the first step to learning-freedom. Lose the textbook and learn to hunt for what teaches YOU best. Don't worry, I'll help.
