University of Texas (English)
My ability to tutor in English, grammar, proofreading, and writing comes from my love of reading and writing in all forms and styles. From simple to complex, elementary through college, I have tutored many students in English, giving them the confidence they need to have success in school or even work. As a gifted reader, I will be able to have conversations with you as a student that will help you develop not only your reading skills, but your reading habits as a whole. Writing is also something I can work on with you as a student if you are willing to put in the time and effort. Along with these subjects, I can teach you how to proofread a paper for proper grammar, punctuation, and even spelling. I am also available as a tutor to help you when that critical paper is due, or that book analysis needs to be written, and you want to make sure it is top notch.
I am a highly patient, married father of twins, a career paramedic/firefighter/police officer, and a grant writer for several area fire and police departments. I also teach fire academy classes, fire safety classes, arson investigation, and more importantly crime documentation classes.
My goal as a tutor is to keep a student challenged, but not overwhelmed- allowing for self discovery of the subject which in turn allows for a deeper understanding and more complete learning. I will provide homework to be done after each session as needed, and provide updated progress reports and periodic assessments to help gauge where we need to work the most. Whether for you, or one of your own I can help with your needs in English, grammar, proofreading, reading, and writing.
I have exceptional reading and writing skills, a Bachelor of Arts in English, and have tutored over 200+ students in these subjects, as well as taught hundreds of others subjects where English, reading, writing, proofreading and grammar are critical and necessary functions of not only school but careers as well.
Please feel free to contact me with questions about the subjects I can tutor on. I will never bill for a session if my student or their parents are not completely satisfied! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
