I have taught high school sciences (IPC, Chemistry, Physics) and college algebra and math classes over the past decade. I have also taught college Physics courses while a graduate student. I have chosen to focus on high school teaching for one simple reason - that is where the problem lies! Too many students are not prepared for any of the highest-paying college degrees (13 of top 15 degrees have the word "engineering" in them and the other two require high levels of math!). I have successfully opened the doors to these careers to students who never thought they could achieve them.
My approach to teaching achieves results because I stress those activities that are proven - muscle-memory, rhythmic memory mnemonics, relevance. As a former working professional in Physics, I can attach the real-world relevance to each lesson.
I will be glad to put you in touch with my former students, who are currently conquering college using my techniques and approach to learning. Many of these students still stay in touch with me in person and through social media. Please consider my skills in tutoring to ensure that your educational dollars reap the rewards you seek. Dr. K helped me go over some concepts missed by me in General Chemistry, and really helped demystify much of it. He was a great help to me and I hope to work with him again as I prepare for finals.
He knows how to explain things in a way that makes sense. He is very straight forward and is clear on his instruction.
Joe makes math simple. He was patient and very easy to understand. His techniques helped tremendously. I highly recommend him for a math tutor and have plans to have him tutor my son.
Working with Joe was great! He put the math into plain English so I could understand what they were asking me to solve. Then, he gave me some very helpful tips on solving quadratic equations and explained the methods. I would highly recommend Joe!
Dr. K seems to have a sincere desire to have kids really "learn" how to get the most out of their math. He teaches them to do things that will help them get better at working problems, not just memorizing for a temporary time. Dr. K gives them tricks to help them do better on tests, as well as regular homework. I am really glad that we found him when we did. Maybe it will make it easier on my son so that he is not intimidated by geometry and will learn to love it!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught high school for the past 7 years to Juniors and Seniors while TAKS was the prevailing standardized exit test. Under my guidance, students who failed the TAKS test their sophomore year were able to pass the exit test on their first try.
I teach test-taking skills that not only prepare the student for TAKS, but for the "money" tests as well (ACT and SAT).
I was the first science teacher to achieve a 100% passing rate for students taking the exit-level science TAKS and maintained that distinction for 4 years. I was asked to tutor summer sessions for students who failed the spring administration for two years.
