Hello parents and students!
Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to tell you a little about myself. School can be an exhilarating as well as a downright frustrating endeavor to embark on, particularly when the subject is difficult and the obstacles seem insurmountable. It is for this reason that I realize the gravity of trust that is placed in the hands of a tutor to provide some much needed insight, tools and techniques for learning, and sometimes just a person with whom to commiserate.
A little of my background experience in tutoring:
My first tutoring experience included being an English and math tutor at a private college in Kansas City, Kansas while completing my Bachelor's degree there. After acquiring my Bachelor's in Psychology, I began tutoring privately at the homes of my students ranging from 1st grade all the way through college as well as for adult learners looking to complete their degrees. My educational background in Psychology has helped me learn many techniques and tools that allow me customize my tutoring approach to meet each individual student's needs. My extensive exposure to students with learning disabilities has added greatly to my personal commitment to those for whom learning can be a unique challenge. It has also provided me with many opportunities to learn a variety of methods and techniques that I can employ with great success.
As an individual who was raised in another culture and as the daughter of missionary parents, I am sensitive to the diverse social and cultural backgrounds of those I tutor and interact with.
Again, thank you for taking the time to read a little about my experiences and qualifications. I look forward to the responsibility of helping you or your child to experience the profound joy and feeling of accomplishment that accompanies academic success.
Engaging and patient
We have been very pleasantly surprised by Annette's approach in teaching our 6th grade son. She was very organized from the time we interviewed her. She assessed the way he learns, she harnessed his attention and engaged him in a manner that left him feeling good about himself and wanting to learn and prove to himself he can do more!Mairaj, 175 lessons with AnnetteTutor responded:

Annette is amazing! Helping with GED prep and with other challenges
Annette is an amazing tutor. She tutor's our 21 year old son who has a variety of unique learning challenges. We were looking for a tutor sensitive to his needs yet one who could see his potential amidst his academic struggles. He has had many diagnosis's in his life: ADD, Dyslexia, Auditory Processing Disorder, Dysgraphia to name a few. Annette was not only eager to reach out to help him learn, her assessment of his learning style in each subject area, is spot on. She takes extrodinary steps to consider this and implement "how he can best learn" into what she teaches him. My son looks forward to the tutoring sessions and senses her sincere care in wanting to help and we appreciate her firm yet gentle way of explaining to us and him, expectations and his own accountability on his part. I am sure that her background in psychology is helpful here. We have had 6 lessons. She is preparing him to eventually take the GED test. I believe she and our son are preparing for this at a reasonable pace, not too fast, not too slow. We are so thankful to have met Annette. If she is this patient with our son who has great challenges, I can only imagine the positive difference she could make for anyone else, regardless of their hurdles.Lorie, 92 lessons with Annette
Annette is amazing at her gift of teaching
Annette has been tutoring me for a little over a month now. My thoughts about myself before tutoring was, that just I could not learn, as well as a lot of other negative thoughts about myself. I tried many attempts to earn my GED but to no avail. Since I have been under Annette's tutorage, she discovered that I have dyslexia. Once I understood what dyslexia was, and its strengths, that was the moment my eyes were open to a whole new beautiful world. I am 46 years old and never knew what was wrong with me until Annette took the time to show me what was going on with me. She is now showing me different ways of learning that work for me preparing me for the GED test and higher education that I may have a better quality of life. I never felt so alive, and so very optimistic going forward. Annette is an amazing teacher, and is always on time and ready to work. she's always prepared and has her students in her heart and mind. Annette has a way of making you feel comfortable learning with her. Maybe it's because of the great sense of humor she has. Until now I never associated learning with laughing. It feels pretty good. I look forward to her words of inspiration every time we meet as well. She really pulls for you to be whatever you can dream to be. As the great Dr. Seuss says, "Oh the places you'll go".
