About Jennifer

Bio

I have always had a strong passion for math and music and I love to share that passion with other students. One of my goals as a tutor is to help each student acquire a stronger grasp on the concepts associated with each subject so that he or she can use those building blocks to understand higher level concepts in the future. I also try to develop a relationship with each student so that we can work as a team to find the best method of teaching for him or her.

In the 2015-16 school year, I attended Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee to study commercial music with a vocal principal and performance emphasis. I took various musical courses, including Music Theory, Aural Skills, Music History, Music Seminars and Performance classes, and Diction and Literature. I took private piano lessons for nine years and participated in multiple piano festivals and competitions every year. I also received music theory and aural skills training for seven years prior to my time at Belmont. In addition, I took a theory test once every year and received a gold or silver medal each time. In high school, I was a member of an award-winning a cappella group and varsity choir as well as a participant in various choir performance fundraisers and events.

In fall 2016, I transferred to the University of Texas at Dallas to pursue computer engineering. I have taken various courses, including Advanced Engineering Math, Physics (Mechanics and Electromagnetism and Waves), Linear Algebra, Programming (C, C++, Java), Differential Equations, Electrical Network Analysis, Digital Systems and Circuits, Electronic Devices, Discrete Math, and Probability Theory and Statistics, and, so far, I have been able to maintain a 4.0 GPA. At UTD, I am a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Society of Women Engineers (SWE), Women Who Compute (WWC), Tau Sigma National Honor Society, and Engineer in Residence (EiR). I am also the Public Relations Chair for both Women Who Compute and Engineer in Residence. In addition, I worked for a company called Brainopolis last summer (2017) in which I was an instructor for weekly STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) camps for kids. Last year, I participated in Engineering Projects in Community Service (EPICS) in which I joined an interdisciplinary team and we built a member management system for a non-profit called Back on My Feet. In summer 2018, I began a cybersecurity internship in Dallas and I am still working part-time during the school year.

I graduated from my high school as number 18 out of 791 (top 2.3% of class) with an unweighted GPA of 3.975/4.0. Throughout my public schooling, I took advanced courses in all subjects, including AP Statistics and AP Calculus AB/BC. I achieved a 5 on both the AP Statistics and AP Calculus exam. I was also a member of the Mu Alpha Theta honor society and the historian for the National Honor Society. Throughout high school, I tutored numerous students in various levels of math, including Calculus, Algebra 1 & 2, Pre-Calculus, and Geometry.

A little more about me: I was born in Charlotte, North Carolina and moved to Flower Mound, Texas when I was four years old. My parents homeschooled me from pre-K through the fifth grade. I then attended public school at Downing Middle School and Marcus High School in Flower Mound. For many years in middle school and high school, I taught children's Sunday school and volunteered in Vacation Bible School during the summer at my church. I played piano and flute and sang competitively for about nine years, but I now enjoy it as a pastime. I am also a proud owner of an adorable little Pomeranian named Jackie (see profile picture).

I am currently a sophomore in college and I have been playing piano since third grade. In fourth grade, I started taking private lessons, and in sixth grade, I began performing in festivals at least twice a year in addition to playing in at least two recitals each year. I consistently received the highest possible or second highest possible score at each of the festivals as well. I also passed the piano proficiency exam at Belmont University this past year. In addition, I taught the basics of piano to a high school student who wanted to learn how to read music and play some sheet music.

Engaging and knowledgeable

Jennifer worked with my daughter on logarithms. It was clear she and my daughter hit it off pretty quickly - they have a lot of things in common - and that really propelled the session nicely. They worked cooperatively - mostly head down, but sometimes side-by-side - until my daughter was satisfied. Really please with Jennifer's engagement, positive reinforcement and mastery of the subject.

My daughter said Jennifer is awesome! We're scheduling our next session and have referred her to a friend. She's close and prompt as well. It's nice to have a tutor that's close. ;)
