Texas State University - San Marcos (French and History)
New York University (Master's)
I have studied French (language, culture, history, etc.) for many years both privately and academically, having received my B.A. in French and History from Texas State University in San Marcos and my M.A. in 19th and 20th Century French Studies. I am passionate about the language, the history, and the people and I enjoy sharing my passion and knowledge with anyone else who has an interest in the subject.
I have helped people improve their reading fluency and comprehension and writing skills, have tutored students in Elementary Mathematics, English Language Arts (Elementary through College), History and Geography (Elementary through College), and French, and have helped people prepare for the ACT, SAT, ASVAB, GED and STAAR exams. I have also taught at two universities (French), one high school (English and French), and, as a substitute, several elementary schools. These experiences combined with my own interest in learning and my love of teaching make me, I believe, an excellent choice for a personal tutor.
I have taken and passed the English Language Arts and Reading certification exam, have always done extremely well in writing (on tests, in school, and for pleasure), and truly love to read and write. Because I have studied foreign languages, I have a unique perspective on the English language, particularly as regards grammar. This is because studying a foreign language actually requires a person to learn or relearn the grammatical structure and rules of their native language. I have also taught English (British Literature specifically) at high school.
If you are interested in someone who is knowledgeable in various subject areas, is an experienced teacher and tutor, and who will adapt the lessons to meet the needs of the student, please feel free to contact me. I am looking forward to hearing from you. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked with first and second graders in all core subject areas (especially Reading, Writing and Math). I am also currently working on earning my teacher certification in the core subjects for grades Pre-K through 6 because, after working as a substitute teacher in April and May of this year, I fell in love with working with younger kids. I find it to be extremely rewarding and a lot of fun.
I am eligible for a Probationary Teacher Certification at all levels of school (K-12), having passed the necessary tests and courses. I am also very passionate about reading, writing and teaching.
I have a B.A. in French from Texas State University, an M.A. in French Studies from NYU, and I have taught French at University and High School.
I have had the pleasure of working with young students in reading and writing and have a passion for both, myself. I am also currently in the process of earning teacher certification in Elementary Education and English Language Arts and Reading (7-12).
As mentioned, I have experience writing college - level (including graduate school) essays and I have taught and tutored many high school seniors in writing, reading, and critical thinking skills.
