University of Texas at Austin (Chemical Engineering)
I have been working at several local high schools as an AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) tutor for the past 7 years. I help students reach their full potential by facilitating tutorial groups. I was trained to tutor all subjects, but I mainly lead chemistry and math groups. I use Socratic questioning to help students find the answers to their questions. This helps the students remember the information that they learn for a longer period of time, rather than just learning the information for a specific test. I also help students with organization skills and other strategies that will help them succeed in college.
Prior to becoming an AVID tutor I worked as a chemical engineer in the semiconductor industry for 10 years. I am a very positive person and thoroughly enjoy helping students reach their full potential! Michelle has very good organizational skills and she is successful in knowing how to conduct the learning process. My son had a very good experience working with her as he was able to quickly understand concepts that he was struggling with. He is looking forward to work with Michelle on a regular basis.
Michelle spent one hour with my child and she made an A on her chemistry exam! Michelle is a great teacher and she made a huge difference in my child's academic success.
My daughter greatly appreciated Michelle's patience and attention. She helped her understand the material and gave some good pointers. We're looking forward to more sessions!
Michelle was great and very patient! My daughter was happy and more relaxed after just one session. She is looking forward to many more sessions. Thank you Michelle.
My daughter had one session with her so far and she is beaming with confidence. Thank you Michelle!! We look forward to this next year with you. Juliana is very excited that she has you and feels totally comfortable with you. THANK YOU!
She was recapping some of the 7th grade math lessons and we will continue with her as a tutor. She is patient and laughs with the student. My daughter was very comfortable.
Michelle was very flexible, which helped with our schedule. She did a great job helping my daughter understand the concepts and how to study in an effective way. Very patient and seems to adapt to each kid and their learning capabilities.
I can't say enough nice things about Michelle and neither can my daughter. I am seeing improvement in her grades, and it has only been a month of tutoring. I wrote the previous sentence months ago and felt the need to update the review and let everyone know that my daughter received a certificate for the "most improved student" in her Math class. The credit belongs to Michelle and her dedication to work with my daughter in that subject.
My 2 girls (9th and 7th grade) really love Ms. Michelle! They say she is very easy to understand and answers their questions thoroughly. I am very happy with the progress they've made and really like that they look forward to their sessions with her!
We enjoyed our first meeting with Michelle and my daughter is looking forward to working with her again in the new year! Thank you!
Today was the very first tutoring session with Michelle and we are off to a terrific start! My son is energized and excited. He completed more in an hour than he has in a week on his own. With Michelle's guidance and encouragement he completed a chemistry lab, a quiz, a lesson and he's on his way to accomplish as much or more the same tomorrow. We can't wait!
So very patient and kind. We love her! A blessing to have her working with our son. Our son even said, "Mom, she's so nice. I wish she was my math teacher!"
Michelle is a wonderful tutor. She is patient and kind. She had made herself available even with my daughter's hectic schedule. She has children too and has always let me know if there is a conflict in the schedule. She has even offered to help my girl at school! I was very fortunate to find Michelle! I love Wyzant for bringing Michelle into my daughter's life to help her with Chemistry and Algebra2.
Michelle has really helped my daughter with getting her school work organized and helping her understand and feel confident with Algebra I.
Michelle responded to my initial request for a tutor with all the right answers and tools and she has not disappointed me yet. She has fulfilled the need and more. Michelle set the expectations upfront with my son and holds him accountable at each session. He has responded to her in a positive manner. During sessions Michelle can be heard positively commending him for work well done which is boosting his confidence in math and organization. Michelle is awesome!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I was a substitute teacher for Leander Independent School District. I completed all the duties of a regular teacher in the teacher’s absence. I subbed only at the elementary level. I am a very positive and encouraging person. I have two children that have just completed elementary school, and I was able to help them with every problem that they brought home.
I have been working as an AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) tutor in Leander ISD for the past four years. AVID involves not only tutoring, but teaching students organization and study skills that will help them succeed in college. I have helped countless high school students to get organized! I have also taught them how to take Cornell Notes to increase their retention of information that they learn.
