About Jonathan

Hello!

My name is Jonathan and I am an advanced math, chemistry, physics, and engineering tutor. I am a TEA certified high school math teacher as well as a current Chemical Engineering student at the University of Houston with a 4.0 GPA. My effectiveness as a tutor and student was recognized by the college of natural science, where I am now a general chemistry and organic chemistry tutor for the college. In addition, I have just finished a successful internship at a Phillips 66 refinery and have a basic working knowledge of the applications of physics, chemistry, and mathematics.

I have a proven track record of success with former students are now enrolled at colleges such as Baylor, Duke, Brown, and Texas State University. Each came to me with their individual struggles, but left with a great understanding of the material. I do not teach "tricks" or "shortcuts", but instead focus on conceptual understanding so that the student will be more successful not only in their current class, but future science and math courses as well.

My specialty is identifying core issues that inhibit learning. Rather than just focus on the material or the homework assigned, I work with the student over a long period of time to improve their ability to learn and apply knowledge in all courses. Students that have stayed with me have consistently seen an entire letter grade improvement in their subject and an overall improvement as they take my techniques and apply them to the rest of their work.

Please message me if you have any questions. I look forward to working with you on your academic journey!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
