Hey, I am Joe! I graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a minor in Secondary Education. There I received a NOYCE Grant through the National Science Foundation for those studying to become teachers in STEM fields. While attending college, I tutored for 3 years at the high school level, as well as working as a student instructor tutoring college level mathematics courses.
I have been a certified high school teacher for 4 years. I am currently teaching AP Calculus and Pre-AP Precalculus, but in the past have also taught Algebra II and Geometry. I am passionate about teaching and believe in a skills-based foundation. I find the best approach to be a problem-solving method in which the student can break down a problem into simple steps that all build on previously learned skills. That means that I don’t simply teach how to solve a single problem using memorization, but rather teach students to recognize patterns that are inherent throughout all of mathematics, thus empowering them to utilize their knowledge throughout all the various subjects.
My specialties for tutoring include Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, and Calculus.
I am available for in-person and online sessions weekday evenings and on weekends. I require a 3 hour notice if you need to cancel a session. Please feel free to message me if you have any questions and of course if you want to schedule a session!
