I believe that a person's vocation is to share what they are passionate about with others, and I am passionate about learning. I teach that I may share this love with those around me. I have worked as a private tutor for the last six years, and through that have gained extensive experience with many different personality types and struggles. Recognizing that believing in oneself is often as much of a struggle as the actual concepts, I strive to improve students' understanding while also helping them build confidence. My goal with any student is to get him/her to the point where he/she no longer needs my help
As I am a Summa Cum Laude graduate and member of the Phi Beta Kappa honors society, you may be assured of my competency in the subject matter. My science degree from a liberal arts university has made me intellectually well-rounded and able to teach a broad number of subjects.
Many of my past students have requested help primarily in math. I am able to patiently work through concepts in a way unique to the learning styles of each student. I currently teach Algebra and Geometry in the classroom, and that has broadened my experience of communicating mathematical concepts with various students.
I'm typically free from 8am to 8pm on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, as well as 3:30pm to 8pm on Monday and Wednesday. My preference is to meet in a coffee shop or library, but I'm also willing to meet a different location that you prefer.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you build you knowledge and confidence! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I currently teach Algebra I and Introduction to Algebra to 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students. Moreover, during the last six years that I've been tutoring, the majority of my pupils have requested help in this subject. I am clear in my teaching, and able to present the information in different ways to help individual students learn the material.
Tutoring over the last six years has led me to a lot of students struggling with Algebra 2. That being said, I have quite a bit of experience working with the students one-on-one with this subject. Currently, I have one regular pupil with whom I work on Algebra 2, so you can be assured that this subject is fresh on my mind.
Having graduated with a degree in Biology, I also took my fair share of chemistry courses in college. I excelled in an accelerated General Chemistry summer program through my university, and I aced both semesters of Organic Chemistry my freshman year. Since then, I've been tutoring many high school students in the subject, helping them build their knowledge and confidence.
