Prairie View A&M University (Biology)
Hello young scholars! My name is Derrick M. If you are looking for tutoring in science, humanities, or any English/literature related studies, I'm your guy. I enjoy tutoring because it allows me the opportunity to take complex material and simplify it to a more transferable form, and watch the growth of young students as their eyes view subject matter in a new light.
I've served as a tutor to incoming college freshmen, as a male student leader, and mentor whilst in my undergraduate years. I hold a bachelor's degree in Biology (pre-med), with a minor in chemistry. To add to my credentials, I've also worked as a bio informatics researcher specializing in prostate cancer genomics. My work experience includes working in the Human Genome Sequencing Center @ Baylor College of Medicine.
I received a four year bachelor's degree in biology from Prairie View A&M University, with a minor in chemistry. I am currently a pre-edical student preparing to apply for the upcoming 2018 cycle. I also have experience as a Cancer genomics and bioinformatics researcher from both Prairie View A&M University and Baylor College of Medicine
While enrolled as an undergrad, I served as officer of recruitment for a community service organization. I was a student researcher for over 2 years in which I was required to give regular presentations in front of panels of other students, professors, and scientists. I've even won a few awards for my presentations. Lastly, I was a 2 time representative of a Male Student Leadership organization, upon which I served as both a tutor and mentor to college freshmen.
I have passed both the AP language and AP literature exams and scored high marks in the courses. I have published poetry and I also have a novel being published in the upcoming 2017 year.
Please reach out if you have any questions and concerns. I am here to help, and never turn away those in need. I encourage parental involvement and tracking of progress! Hello young scholars! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
