My name is "Olajumoke" but most people call me "Jae". I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelors in Accounting from Texas Southern University and I recently got my Masters in Business Administration from University of Texas. I currently work as a Financial Analyst in the oil and gas industry. I grew up through my high school within the British system of education and my college years have been within the American system. Going through both systems has provided me with an enriched academic experience and has taught me flexibility and creativity in the area of learning. In my current job I work with numbers a lot but beyond that I provide reports to various levels of management. These reports require that I understand my audience and ensure that I present a lot of information to them succinctly.
I have 5 years experience tutoring elementary age students in Math, Reading, Grammar and Writing. I believe students learn best at their own pace, and it's my responsibility to understand and tailor learning to each student's unique needs. Creativity and patience are part of what I bring to each student's learning experience - as I tell my math students "there's more than one way to get to the answer" I encourage critical thinking and I let my students know that this all about team work and success for both the student and the tutor.
In high school I struggled with physics because it was abstract and I couldn't relate to it so I lost interest and didn't do quite well. My approach to teaching is understanding what interests the student and connecting it to the subject. So for example if you like sports, then I can show you how math and vocabulary show up in sports everyday, this often ignites an excitement and interest for the subject. I will encourage your excitement for the subject and I will also challenge you beyond where it's become "too easy". My teaching philosophy is based on the following: there are absolutely no stupid questions, practice is a great way to know what you don't know, learning should be a fun experience and creativity is a "super power" that everyone has.
The greatest reward I get from tutoring is the feeling that's similar to watching a crawling caterpillar transform to a soaring butterfly. I look forward to helping you achieve academic success that will contribute to your success in life! My name is "Olajumoke" but most people call me "Jae". In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
