My experience includes teaching math courses (Algebra 1 & 2) and Chemistry, Physical Science, and Physics, as a certified high school teacher and also at the community college level. I look forward to helping you succeed in math and science.
Educational background: B.S. and Ph.D/ degrees in Chemical Engineering/Mathematics. I have worked as an engineer in industry for over 30 years. In the middle of my engineering career, I changed careers to public high school teaching in Allentown, PA, where I used to live before moving to Houston in 2013.
During my high school teaching career (2002-2007), I was certified by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in mathematics, chemistry, and physics. Also, during the period 2004-2013 I taught college math and science courses at Lehigh Carbon Community College (in the Allentown, PA area) and at Strayer University's Allentown campus. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught Algebra 1 in high school and equivalent courses (with varying names, such as Elementary Algebra) in college.
Also, my educational background includes a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering/Mathematics. I have tutored students (middle school, high school, and college) in the past, so I am confident that I can help you succeed in Algebra 1.
I have taught Algebra 2 in high school and equivalent courses (e.g., College Algebra and Intermediate Algebra) in college.
I have previously tutored students in Algebra 2, so I am confident that I can help you succeed in Algebra 2.
Chemical Engineering: I have both a B.S. and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Houston and the University of Minnesota, respectively. I also hold a Professional Engineer certification (P.E.) from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
During graduate school, I was a teaching/research assistant and graded students' papers and assisted in chemical engineering labs.
I obtained a high school teaching certificate in Pennsylvania to teach Chemistry, teaching this subject for four years. I also taught a community-college level Chemistry course for two years.
In addition, I have previously tutored a number of high school and college students in Chemistry, so I am confident that I can help you succeed in your Chemistry studies.
