I have been writing my whole life. I majored in English - Creative Writing at Lycoming College. I also spent the past 2 years working as a journalist in the Army. I have knowledge of AP style, MLA, and even a bit of Chicago style thanks to my history studies. I have a short story published on the Kindle store. I can help with writing, editing, journalism, and generic English skills, from basic reading and writing up through high school and college level writing. I am also well-grounded in the literature classics, as well as classical literature (The Odessey, the Illiad, the Antigone cycle, Lysistrata, and more).
I also majored in Medieval European History at Lycoming. I have a great love for anything medieval, and wrote my capstone essay for my major on the motivations of the Crusaders during the First Crusade. I can provide samples of that paper if you would like. I took classes on the Crusades, the Carolingians, the Middle Ages through modern eyes, Medieval Literature, Chaucer, Medieval Europe and its neighbors, Historical Methods, and more.
I have devoted a lot of my time to studying the medieval knight and chivalry, as it is one of my favorite topics.
I have never tutored on a professional level, i.e., gotten paid for it. However, I have tutored many of my friends and colleagues along the way. My approach to you would be to first learn as much about you and your needs, as well as how you learn best. From there, I would do my own research and generate a lesson plan that would cater to your needs. If I feel like I could not provide a lesson that would be worth your money, I will let you know before taking a job I was unqualified for. I am still in contact with my professors from college as well as other resources, and I can guarantee that if you choose to give me a chance, I will do everything in my power to be well-prepared and knowledgeable about your subjects. I believe learning should be fun, and not a chore. I do require at least 8 hours notice of any changes to a scheduled appointment, however, because I have a 1.5 year old who I need to ensure care for. Thank you for taking the time to read all of this, and I look forward to working with you. I have been writing my whole life. I majored in English - Creative Writing at Lycoming College. I also spent the past 2 years working as a journalist in the Army. I have knowledge of AP style, MLA, and even a bit of Chicago style
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
