About James

I have 5 years experience as a tutor which was my primary income through college. The first two years were as a general tutor covering basic courses: entry mathematics, English, history, and biology. The last 3 years were entirely math, electrical engineering and programming. For all 5 years I worked for grant funded programs within the university. On a given day I would tutor everything from remedial mathematics to differential equations.

I am extremely patient. My style focuses on ensuring my students understand core concepts and properly utilize formulas to aid with test results over homework completion. I prefer to teach people to never require assistance on their old material again. In my 5 years I turned 4 of my students into tutors.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 is foundational for upper level mathematics because it teaches you to reuse equations and utilize variables for unknown quantities.
I can't say I'm any more qualified than the next person who has tutored it for most of the last decade. I can say I know the material and I have a good track record of helping others understand.

Prealgebra

I have over five years experience as a professional tutor with grant programs and near a decade private tutoring, including Prealgebra.
