I have approximately 25 years working on and off shooting mostly commercial, tabletop/product, and editorial photography. However, my experience spans across just about every category of photography. I have some course work in photography in junior college, but mostly my experience is purely natural and from hands-on work in the field with other photographers and art directors. I have published work in national and local magazines/publications, as well as an extensive amount of catalogue shooting for a well known local Texas souvenir company. An online portfolio can be viewed if desired. My experience with photography directly connects to my computer skills, which are used for editing purposes and business correspondence. My experience is with both Mac and P.C., so I am able to assist in that area as well. I have experience with Adobe CS, Microsoft Office and Apple programs such as iWork.
I love teaching and find myself somewhat obsessive about it. I have a knack of seeing detail, understanding it, correlating the information, then explaining it in very simple to understand terms. It makes me feel really good when I can explain something to someone and know they have absorbed the information.
I am very friendly and easy going, yet methodical. I’m all about customizing your learning experience! I will figure out your level of knowledge, review your understanding, then build from that point. I like to present information, have you think through it, ask me questions, then have you present it back to me. I will go over it as many times as we need to, so you absorb it. I love to be asked questions, so no matter if you feel a question might be lacking, ask me anyway. I think that when people are in a classroom environment they are less apt to ask questions because they might be shy or may feel uncomfortable, thinking people in the room may think their question is stupid. If someone doesn’t understand, then no question is stupid. My main goal is for you to lock in and show me you understand. I want my students to have fun and how can you not, this is photography? Also, I have recognized when someone is having fun, they are more interested in what they are doing. This allows their mind to become more open and accepting of information with much less effort. It instills a more solid understanding of the subject.
I welcome students of all ages in photography and computer. If you have a passion for photography or if you are going on vacation and just want to know a little more, so you can bring back some beautiful vacation photos; I can get you up and running quickly with the basics, even if it's with your cell phone camera. If you are wanting to become a bit more advanced, I can guide you into the more technical concepts that apply with studio lighting and composition. If you have a new camera, I can also, teach you how to use it. However, if I'm not familiar with your camera, that will require I figure it out for you, then I can explain it to you. Hourly fees will still apply. I do require my students to possess any relevant equipment & supplies for which they need tutoring. Studio photography is my passion! However, I have excellent experience in all categories of the art. I can guarantee you will be excited when you see your skills blossom! I just finished a fantastic Photography tutoring session with Steve! My daughter set it up as a birthday surprise. I hadn't used my Nikon film camera since my girls were born and had become too dependent/bored with the "automatic" setting of my point-and-shoot. Now that I have more time, I purchased a new Canon G16 and really wanted to get back to a true love of mine, fine tuning my photography skills. Steve was amazing in refreshing/teaching me photography settings/techniques, in addition to helping me with the settings and to get comfortable with my new camera. Steve was able to bring me up to date and left me excited about practicing the new skills and researching more information. He also critiqued several of my photos and pointed out some techniques in some of his photos as examples. Although we spent the whole time (even more than the scheduled time at no charge) going over the camera and techniques, I was very pleased with our session and feel it was time well spent. I look forward to hiring Steve again for another informative and beneficial photography session.
I bought tutoring succession for my much deserving and wonderful husband.
My husband raved that Steven was Easy to work with, prompt

Steven was very personable and patient. He wanted to be sure I understood all the photography basics to get the best shots and he provided me with a great cheat sheet with tips. It was a very informative lesson.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been a photographer for over 25 years and have published work in magazines and small local publications.
