University of Texas, Dallas (Chemistry)
John here, just a little about me: I completed my Associate's degree with honors at Collin College and transferred to the University of Texas at Dallas to study chemistry. During my transfer, I was accepted to the UTD Summer Research Program where I worked with the Ferraris research group on supercapacitor development & fabrication. I stayed onboard through the rest of my undergrad, was selected to present my work at the 46th ACS Meeting in Miniature at A&M Commerce, and went on to place as a finalist at the 2013 UT Dallas Undergraduate Research Competition. I graduated from UTD with my B.S. in Chemistry in 2014.
I've recently finished my year contract developing next-gen automated blood analyzers in Abbott's Clinical Chemistry department, and am currently applying for my PhD.
I've been a tutor at WyzAnt since summer 2012, helping students learn to excel in often confusing, frustrating courses. The sciences can be difficult but are highly rewarding. I'll work with you to help you achieve proficiency in the field and to master your classes for whatever path you're taking.
John Hey guys,

John helped Austin not only learn Algebra and Geometry better, but gain the confidence Austin needed to continue growing into the challenges of high school. John's patience, sense of humor and insight shape every lesson, making each hour a valuable building block in Austin's education. We highly recommend him!
I had a concussion, so I'm a little slow, but he was very patient with me. He was exactly on time, down to the minute, and he came very prepared. I'm failing physics, so I was nervous because this is my last hope for passing. He was quite helpful and he's a good teacher. I highly recommend him.
Provides thorough explanation of problem sets and works through several of his own (additional) examples to ensure mastery of material. Very patient and enthusiastic! John is a joy to work with!
My son had a hard time learning from his teachers and his grades reflected that. I thought perhaps it was my son not paying attention in class or putting forth the effort. John not only helped my son understand the concepts in chemistry and algebra, he made it so interesting that my son loves the two subjects now. He even purchased a book on chemistry just for a fun read. I'm deeply appreciative to John for giving my son the confidence to master future concepts in those subjects and in himself overall.
He helped me feel more confident going into my test. He familiarized me with some of the basics to create the foundation needed for success in organic chemistry.
I'm currently taking chemistry online and have been struggling with the last few sections. I decided to look into getting a tutor and I'm so glad I did. He helped me so much. In the first session he was able to explain to me what I'd been struggling for days to understand. John is patient, very professional, showed up right on time for our session, and gave me some great tips and things to work on. I highly recommend John.
John C. is a great tutor. My daughter's chemistry grades began improving after 2 sessions with John and they continue to improve. But as important as her grades are - her self confidence has improved and she feels like she gets it now!!!
John is prompt and patience. He was able to get through to our student at a time when our student did not have time nor patience. John was great for our needs and will be called upon more - as the school year progresses.
John has and continues to be a great tutor for our son in Math. He is very patient, professional, and friendly to work with. He has a great relationship with our son, which makes the tutoring sessions something our son looks forward to, in the subject he likes the least.
I highly recommend this tutor for chemistry and calculus. He has taught me a lot. He is very knowledgeable and works well with busy schedules.
John loves Chemistry, has a wonderful personality, and his enthusiasm and patience shines through. My daughter's grades in her high school chemistry went through the roof with John's help.
I've worked with John a few times now so I feel like I can give him an accurate review. I was initially nervous to find and pay for a tutor because most of them have a reputation of making you feel like you're dumber than you really are. But not John! I like the fact that he's a student as well, so he is able to take the complex terminology and concepts that the professors use and put it in simple and easy to understand forms. I also like that he's very knowledgeable in the subject of organic chemistry, so he can apply the information that he's teaching me to real life scenarios that are actually useful to me. He has very flexible tutoring hours and will work around my busy work and school schedule as well. I've had other tutors, but most of them are individuals that are incredibly knowledgeable on the subject, but are not able to convey the important information to me. I definitely plan on using John to get me through the remainder of the semester!
My daughter has only had one lesson with John but we definitely plan to continue. He was able to explain Stoichiometry to my daughter in a way that she could understand almost immediately. He was patient and made her feel extremely comfortable asking questions. She learned in one hour what she couldn't comprehend in hours of class time as well as hours of researching and watching videos online!
Prompt, professional and patient! So thankful John was able to help our daughter navigate and understand the chemistry concepts which she had been struggling with for a while. She told us he clearly taught her in 5 minutes what she had been struggling with for a few weeks. Highly recommend John!
John provided a great written lesson to reinforce what was gone over during the session. Gave my son his number for any questions he had between sessions. Prompt, encouraging and personable.
John was prompt in returning emails/texts, extremely prepared for the lesson he was covering, patient, and organized in his approach to teaching the material! A truly knowledgeable Chem tutor! His follow up included a review of the material covered during tutoring! Great job!
John did a great job explaining conversion factors, periodic table, and how atoms work. I don't care for science at all and John made it fun to learn this subject. John has a very easy going personality and I felt very comfortable talking with him.
Easy to schedule. Was very helpful with my Chemistry related DAT prep. Could explain the concepts in an easy to understand manner.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Algebra is required for many higher-level topics in math, science, business, and finance, so students will benefit from a strong foundation in algebra early on. Sessions emphasize methods of problem solving for linear equations, polynomials, inequalities, rational functions, radical functions, word problems etc. for course mastery, and to equip students for success in later courses.
