I am a biochemist degree holder with extensive experience as a high school science teacher, math and science tutor. I have worked with students from all backgrounds, from low-performing to high-achieving, tapping into their strong suits and tailoring my lessons along those strengths so that they (the students) understand the subject matter better.
My experience as a classroom teacher and graduate student means that I set high expectations for myself and my students. I encourage and guide them towards meeting these expectations while teaching them value-added skills, like approaches to solving various problems, thinking beyond the question (critical thinking), that can be applied to other subjects.
Finally, I believe that all students have the ability to understand seemingly complex concepts in Science and Mathematics, hence I stress that my students should have a "can do" attitude, or be willing to put their best effort at all times.
Thank you. I am a biochemist degree holder with extensive experience as a high school science teacher, math and science tutor. C. Gregory is very conscientious and seems to want to do whatever will help the student to be successful.
He's very knowledgeable and very good in breaking down the topics within the student's understanding. We're very thankful to have a Science Tutor like C. Gregory A.
Patient, encouraging and thorough tutor. Giving my daughter confidence. Thorough instruction to supplement what was taught in school. Understand challenges of dealing w less than great teacher.
Excellent communication skills. Bonded well with my twins and quick identification of their math skill level and needs. Developed an action plan for the next sessions that the kids feel comfortable with.
My son is generally a shy guy, Mr. Gregory made him feel so comfortable. He is a very friendly, knowledgeable guy. He is awesome with kids, my son says he is confident Mr. Gregory can help him.
We met with Mr. Gregory for the first time. My son was very impressed with his knowledge and passion of teaching. We are going to continue our tutoring session from now on. We look forward to a successful school year.
Gregory is an awesome tutor. He went well above and beyond his required duties. My daughter was very comfortable with his style of tutoring and he will be requested again.
My daughter thoroughly enjoyed and understood his tutoring technique without feeling too overwhelmed. We are looking forward to our next session with him. And he is patient too, which is an excellent attribute to have when tutoring.
We were very impressed with Gregory. He is a pleasant, polite, and obviously very bright young man. Gregory demonstrated considerable patience helping our teenaged son through Honors Chemistry last spring. He was always organized and well prepared for tutoring sessions, and was willing to be flexible with our schedule. We would not hesitate to recommend him to others.
C. Gregory is a very patient, calm and attentive tutor. Before coming out he wanted to know what was my sons strengths and weaknesses. He asked what he was working on in school. He also wanted to know what was my intentions and goals from my son being tutored. He is always early or on time for secessions. My son loves having him come over to tutor him. I will definitely recommend him highly. We will continue to use him in the future.
Gregory is an excellent tutor. We found him to be focused, organized, flexible, and easy to reach. Our son was struggling with chemistry. Gregory was able to break down the subject matter to improve his understanding. He helped our son take a more organized approach to chemistry, which improved his understanding. The improvement in his grades is a testament to Gregory's abilities as a tutor. Our only regret is that we didn't find him sooner.
Mr. Gregory is a great tutor. He really knows how to break down the material and make it very understandable. I will surely recommend him to all of my friends.
My child was sure of her how to face the challenges of the ACT and SAT math but after one tutoring session with Gregory she could not wait to take the exams. According to my child: "Greg is showing me stuffs that I have not learnt in high school, if I had him as a math teacher in high school I would be a math geek". I wish we had found Gregory since elementary school because math is a difficult subject for most kids and a tutor as efficient as Gregory would give any child the confidence to be in love with math and science. I WILL RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE.
He was the best tutor I think I've ever had. I enjoyed and appreciated his personalization and enthusiasm in teaching and researching certain chemistry lessons. He is very down to earth and relatable, and has excellent listening skills. I have experienced, as I think future pupils will, very productive and beneficial sessions with him. Also, I never felt rushed or looked down on during our sessions which is a very important aspect to learning in pupil-tutor situations. Chemistry is a strong-suit! I give Mr. Gregory a 4.5 out of 5. I experienced a consistent grade pattern after his services and an improvement in understanding overall course material.
Mr. Gregory patiently explains the concepts in an easy to understand manner. He examines my sons weaknesses and strengths and adjust the sessions
accordingly. He also offers tips and suggestions regarding studying and assignments for my son to work on. My son states that he does feel more confident in his math skills.
C. Gregory A. has proven to be a great Chemistry tutor for my 10th grade daughter. From the first session, he took time to understand her challenges and confusion and present the lessons in a clear and patient manner. He has not only provided additional practice work for extra review but has made himself available via email at all hours of the day & night to answer questions in between tutoring sessions. In order to make my daughter more confident in class, he has made the effort to work ahead in her textbook so she is more familiar and prepared for her in-class lessons. In addition, he is extremely responsive, on-time for all lessons, patient and kind. He is a great tutor!
Gregory is outstanding at explaining material, but it is very difficult to contact him. Unfortunately, he is only available on Sunday so it doesn't really help. Very nice, but hard to contact after tutor session, but I would really still recommend him.
I recommend Gregory to anyone who wishes to see their child succeed and improve upon their grades. He is punctual, very patient and detailed. My son's grade has definitely improved since being tutored. He is not rushed and will take the time to explain and make sure my son understands before moving on to another topic. I have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone who is seeking a tutor of excellence.
I hired Mr. A. to tutor my 17 year old son in Chemistry. He arrived on time and was very professional. He was able to break down the information so that my son could easily understand it. It can be difficult to hold the attention of a teenager, but Mr. A. did a wonderful job. My son commented on how much better he understood the material after meeting with him. I would highly recommend Mr. A. to other parents searching for a highly qualified tutor for their child.
This was our first session with Greg and when we arrived he was already there and ready to start. He took time to understand what my daughter's needs were during our initial phone consultation, and was prepared to assist. He was very friendly and my daughter was immediately at ease with him. After their session he provided detailed feedback (which was then sent to me electronically via WyzAnt), and other suggestions/take-a-ways. I would highly recommend him to others and will utilize his services again for other subjects.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Students will learn to define matter and classify it according to chemical and physical properties. They will trace the historical development of the modern atomic theory and explain the current quantum mechanical model of the atom. The periodic table will be defined and explained using the modern atomic theory. The properties of atoms will be explored. Using the understanding of bonding and periodic properties, students will predict and define the various types of bonding between elements. Students will name and write correct sample formulas for compounds. Students will describe a chemical reaction with an equation and calculate relationships described by the equation. In addition, the mole concept will be utilized. Based on the kinetic theory students will differentiate between the physical properties of the three phases of matter. Students will calculate mathematical relationships based on gas behavior. Quantitatively and qualitatively, the student will describe the process of solutions and characteristics of solutions. Thermodynamic relationships will be investigated. Students will explore the factors that affect the rates of a reaction and apply them to the theory of dynamic equilibrium. They will predict changes in equilibrium based on LeChatelier’s principle, and apply them to 2 acid-base theory. Oxidation-reduction will be applied to real-life situations and energy interactions will be used to explain reaction spontaneity.
This course is designed to allow students the opportunity to investigate the composition of matter and its interactions.
